first time going here. small little place in a tiny strip mall. The decor is cool; love the aquarium on the wall. As far as the food, I had the brisket with rice and beans and plantains. Tasted wonderful. The wife had chicken curry. She said it was good, but, not the best she's ever had. Also ordered a jerk chicken salad and beef pies which were tasty as well. it's hard for me to measure this place against others since Jamaican restaurants are not abundant in the area, but, I have to say the food at this one is pretty good. Will go back again..

A came here because I was looking for a Jamaican place to eat in L.A. I came for dinner and tried the Jamaican beef patty & chicken patty. I love these patties because I grew up eating them in New York. The ones here aren't anything to write home about. They were not terrible, but lacked the spices and seasonings in the meats. For the entree, I had jerk chicken and that was average as well. The chicken was dry. It came with some rice and beans and that was dry and bland as well. There were only 2 other tables with customers, but the service was slow.

Fantastic Jamaican food and solid service in the Valley. The BBQ Jerk Chicken I got was fantastic. An awesome mix of spicy and sweet, and the chicken itself tasted great. The hot sauce brought for us was delicious and actually spicy. It was served with delicious plantains and a solid medley of vegetables. The rice and beans with the chicken was the weakest part of the meal, but easily overcome by the other components of the dish. The food was cheap and service was good and maybe a little relaxed (and thus slow). The atmosphere is pretty cool with some good reggae music playing throughout our meal

I get a take-out order of jerk chicken at least once every week from Sattdown, and I LOVE it! It's tender, juicy, and VERY spicy! YUM! I have never eater inside the restaurant itself, but it looks very clean and the chef and workers are really sweet.

Sattdown Jamaican Grill is a tiny restaurant in a nondescript strip mall in Studio City with limited seating and an unsophisticated ambiance, but the food is very spicy, tasty, and inexpensive. We have come here a few times, but we usually get the jerk chicken platter because it provides a nice assortment: jerk chicken, steamed vegetables, plantains, and a side of rice for $12. We also like the BBQ & jerk chicken combination platter. The chicken is moist, tender, and VERY spicy. If you cannot handle spicy food, stay away from Sattdown. If you love spicy food, come here and ENJOY! Oh, the chef and servers are really friendly, very sweet, and extremely professional but in a homey, casual way that makes you feel like you are eating in a friend's humble home, not just another strip mall mini-restaurant.

Had an Amazon Local deal that had expired... yes, I am ashamed at myself for that. But it's still worth what I paid for it ($12), so of course I'm determined to get something out of it. The coupon said reservations are required and for a Friday or Saturday night, I'd agree. The place is tiny. It's nothing fancy or particularly comfortable - it's in a strip mall and next to a liquor store after all... but it's functional. Tiny parking lot that may be filled up so bring a little extra patience. We were promptly shown to a teeny table. The staff totally understood that there was still some value to the coupon without any explanation - good sign. We started with the "fried festival" appetizer. It was good... slightly sweet and nice texture. It's slightly dry so it could use some sort of sauce. Now that probably isn't traditional but after all, we are eating Jamaican food in a strip mall is Studio City so... give me some mayo-based dip. For a main course, we shared the Tofu Curry. It was definitely not like an Indian curry, but it was good. Mildly flavored with very fresh tasting tofu. Better than I expected actually. I'd gladly try anything with tofu here. The rice n peas (not what you're thinking - it's like black beans and rice) and fried plantains served on the side were really good. I'd order an extra side of plantains if you're a fan... they're pretty tasty. She ordered one of the special traditional Jamaican drinks - the Sorrel. It wasn't to either of our taste, but when were we going to get the opportunity to try something like this, right? In sum, a nice little find. I'd come back to explore the menu and try another variation with that fresh tofu and plantains.

Just finished having lunch from here and wow it was even better than I expected!! Loved the jerk chicken meal the rice plantains and veggies were filled with flavor. The beef patty was delicious!!! So flaky and fresh. Can't wait to come back again

Yes, we jammin. This humble outpost to Jamaican flavor resides in a somewhat sleepy strip mall on the outer bend of Ventura Blvd where it curves its way towards Universal City. I've driven by Sattdown many a times and have sped past for one reason or another. I went in on for a later lunch around 1:45pm on a Saturday and was surprised to find one patron wrapping up his lunch. I pretty much had the place to myself. There's the obligatory wall of minor and major celebrities who have graced their presence at Sattdown. The decor is island friendly and definitely relaxing. I ordered the Jerk Chicken platter, which came with plantains, steamed veggies, and a side of rice for $12+. I thought the price was a bit higher than what I would have wanted, but I was very pleased my dish. The jerk seasoning was great and the chicken was quite tender. The hot sauce was also a delicious condiment. The plantains were excellent as well - I could have had more of those. The service was warm and friendly and the food came out hot and within a few minutes of ordering. I'd definitely consider hitting up Sattdown again. I couldn't help but think that Sattdown would be a fun alternative to traditional catered office lunches.

Jerk chicken for days!!!!! I was so stoked when we found a good Jamaican spot near work. When we came the lady at the counter was super chill and nice. We sat down (see what I did there?) and ordered some festival bread, jerk chicken patty, and our main lunch entrees (more jerk chicken, all white meat, for me and jerk chicken sandwich for my co-worker). It's sooooo good. Bursting with flavor. even the Caribbean hot sauce they have at the table is delicious! The oxtail gravy adds a nice touch to the rice and beans. I definitely want to try and oxtail stew next time and I'll order some fish next time as well. Oh man I can't wait to go back! This place just has an awesome vibe and has an island feel with reggae playing all day. Good food and good music: my kind of place!

So I personally had the BBQ jerk chicken of the lunch menu, everyone else had oxtails and jerk chicken (also off the lunch menu) I would say it was pretty bomb.com , very spicy and sweet, came with veggies and beans and rice. We all agreed the chicken was very tender. We also had the vegetable bread? Not sure what it was called but I liked it as well.

My first time here and it has a place in my heart! The food is Ahhh-mazing!!! The fresh pineapple ginger drink is no joke and a must try. It's very refreshing and has a kick to it. The jerk tofu was full of flavor and the spiciness was perfect (I asked for it to be very spicy). What I like about the tofu was that it didn't taste like the regular tofu and the texture was different as well. The tofu was lightly fried and had a smooth firm texture (kind of like a fish cake texture). My cousin had the oxtail dish and it was so delicious and the meat was moist and fell off the bone! I definitely will be coming back here for more. I haven't been this excited about a place in a long time!!

Wow Jamaican food in Studio City and fortunately it is worth it. Amazingly they offer a wide range of traditional Jamaican platters such as Ackee fish and Patties. I decided to order a basic BBQ Jerk Chicken Sandwich which ended up being tastefully unique. It was also nice to know the food wasn't made until ordered as cliché as that sounds. Typically, most Caribbean restaurants are known to prepare food, freeze, and cook since it actually takes time to prepare most popular dishes. They also offer a vegetarian option. Don't forget to order a beef partty, on point !!!!!! I was not a fan of purchasing Plantains based on how many pieces you wanted. This is a family owned business and they are so so so attentive and nice. And most importantly, the owner/cook is a true Jamaican. I cannot wait to return ! Free Plaza parking and how ironic, there's a dispensary adjacent from the restaurant for all you Rastas

  • Debbie B.

I am Jamaican and I just found this place to be okay. The curry goat was not soft enough and the chicken patty flavor a little odd. The oxtail wasn't bad but the portions were small. I drove all the way to studio city because it had the most positive reviews, but I think it's more for people getting an intro to Jamaican food.

Oxtail and stew chicken were right on the money, topped off by the festival and guava juice. Delicious!

SATTDOWN for some Jamaican spice!! Ooooooweee, it was the most rewarding meal I ate all day! Hats off to the owners and chef! This is my newest favorite Jamaican restaurant in L.A. Everything I had was sooo good! The food was made with so much love!!! I didn't want to stop eating. Try the stuffed chicken or vegetable patties. They're good for starters. Jerk Chicken is scrumptious! You'll want to pack an order to go for lunch the following day -it's that good! ;) I'll return when I'm back in town. Thank you for the love mon'!

Officially my favorite Jamaican restaurant in LA! Not that there are many here anyways... The food is definitely top notch! I've been searching for a Brooklyn-standrad homie Jamaican place ever since I moved here. Now I have finally find comfort in this cute joint not too far from where I live. Believe me, I've had my fair share of Jamaican food whether it's from a tiny hole-in-the-wall in the craziest neighborhood or Sunday family cookings. Even though the menu has items that cater to trendy peeps that are just looking for an "adventure", Tony and his wife will take care of you like old pals from next door if you start blasting Patois. Oh man, the steamed snapper and the oxtails were irresistibly good! Hope my major foodgasm did not disturb any cutsie couples in the restaurant. Who needs sex when you have awesome food like this? Actually, I'd like both. Just saying. Don't forget to check in on Yelp (think it only works on Fridays). Free jerk chicken or beef patty that actually taste like they are home-made!

  • Reza S.

Beef patties are definitely on point. Great service. Jerk Chicken salad was delicious and I even enjoyed white meat chicken which I am not a fan of. Overall a great experience and a great price. I need more of those patties.

Have been there twice. Delicious! The first time they were out of brisket, we ordered short ribs instead. The second time we called to make sure brisket was available. Both are incredibly delicious. The tropical chicken is also very flavourful

I also had this place book marked for a while and really felt like it missed the mark. we came in on Saturday for dinner. I started with the Sorrell and was warned that it had a lot of ginger in this batch so it might be strong but I was down to give it a try. Took one sip and didn't find it to be that strong or that punch i was expecting. My husband and I shared a beef patty adn felt like it was overall bland and lacked the spices/kick that i expected. Their hot sauce is great and really took it up a bit but on its own it was a bit lack luster. We also got a batch of their jerk wings which had a great sauce and was more flavorful. I had their ox tails for dinner. I thought they were also good but didn't have that heat or vibrant spice I was looking for. I found myself putting hot sauce on everything. The vegetables on the plate just seemed like an afterthought...just there to give you some kind of veg - nothing special about them at all. The food was good but definitely not amazing and now that punch of flavor I was looking for

  • Daniel B.

I came here for spicy Jerk chicken and that's exactly what I got. The chef is not afraid to tell the customer how Jerk/spice is gonna taste (spicy), and he basically says if you don't like it, don't complain because you've been forewarned on the spicy nature of Jamaican cuisine! I got the combo: BBQ and Jerk Chicken. It was very tender and moist. The sauce is phenomenal. I wanted to literally drink it! I have to come back and try the patties and stew next. Great job! -Daniel

Food was delicious! Location is quite a distance from L.A. but good makes it worth the drive, service was good! Try it once you've Sattdown you'll go back!

  • Albert W.

I didn't know what to expect. I had the famous jerk chicken. For the normal spice, I thought it was a good kick. As far as everything else on the plate, I wasn't that whoopie about it. I thought my wife's ox tail was much more interesting. I did like the drink menu, lots of local stuff to the country. Would I go back? Not sure, but it was nice and the chef came out to greet us. I think it's worth a visit.

  • Van Z.

Just had the oxtail and jerked bbq chicken combo. It was so good I could have had a second portion. I am so happy to have found this place so close to NoHo. I'll bump up my rating to 5 once I have frequented this gem more and if they maintain the same quality and seasoning. If you prefer the superior flavored food that's tender, juicy and melts in your mouth you have to try this place. But if you are into the inferior everyday salt and pepper seasoning of your daily cabbage... then I guess any local diner will do it for you

  • Nikk G.

This place was great, from the Conch fritters to the braised ox-tail dish I ordered. I can't wait to go back and try a few other things. Also, in the spirit of Jamaican cuisine I had a ginger beer. (Wasn't very gingery unfortunately though) Very friendly and courteous small buisiness service.

My boyfriend and I were craving Jamaican food last weekend so he suggested We Be Jammin, but I heard a friend mention Sattdown had awesome service and good food so we decided to try it out. Boy was she right! Tony, the head chef, was simply amazing! He gave us excellent recommendations and the food came out pretty quick. The oxtails were my FAVORITE! They were so tender and flavorful. The curry goat and jerk chicken were also very good. Both meals came with plantains, rice, and veggies. We had plenty of leftovers and even grabbed some beef patties to go. We will definitely be back to Sattdown!

Chef Tony's spot here in Studio City (of all places) is one of the first five or six places I take every visitor to Los Angeles to. Why? 1) It's one of the most gracious and unpretentious food temples in the city, in a place that seems to prize pretension and lip-gloss for its own sake. 2) While it's not uncommon to find Caribbean style places in certain East Coast cities, finding one of this quality here in Los Angeles is practically unique. Couple that with the fact that most of my - international/ex-patriate - visitors have never been to the Caribbean or tried its food, this doubles my surprise to them. 3) Chef Tony is clearly proud of his Jamaican heritage, and has worked hard to bring what I feel are the key cornerstones of his country's cuisine to this vapid navel-gazing city. Dishes like Ackee & Salt Fish, Fish Tea Soup - something we always ask for even if we know it's not on the today's specials - goat curry, or the oxtail "stew". The beef patty is excellent, and he's even tried damned hard to bring another Caribbean specialty to Los Angeles: conch (the flesh of a large mollusc). Alas, it's frozen, and Tony makes fritters from it, which are OK, but because I've had the original article freshly caught (by myself) , it's hard for me to enjoy. (Pronounce it "CONK" not "CONCH".) This is a FAMILY run restaurant, with Tony's wife tending to the front of the house, and his daughters helping out with tending tables. I've seen his young son bus tables in a manner that's true to both Tony's Island roots and his wife's (Thai?) traditions where the whole family "chips in" to help out. The place is small, quiet, and very inviting. I've taken up a little tradition of "smuggling" a bit of Wray & Nephew to share with him post-meal as he's winding down and closing up, as a final tribute and gesture of appreciation to the food and tradition of hospitality he's brought from Jamaica. We've enjoyed every time we've been to Chef Tony's, and look forward to our next visit. He and his wife are gracious hosts and do their utmost to make everyone feel very welcome. If you can forgive a bit of tardy service or its "rustic" decor, you will have a wonderful dining experience.

I'll be honest I have no idea how they have a 4 1/2 stars. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but I ordered what the owner recommended and I was truly disappointed when I got home. I was very excited to try Jamaican food for the first time but at this point I didn't like it although from the flavors that I like, I should love it but a disappointment.

I have not eaten Jamaican food in over 15 years and today my next door neighbors invited me to lunch at SATTDOWN JAMAICAN GRILL. OMG! The food was the best. I had the oxtails and jerk chicken combo with rice and beans, veggies of the day and fried plantains. The oxtails and jerk chicken was seasoned and cook to perfection. I have now discovered my favorite Jamaican Restaurant in the San Fernando Valley.

I've been meaning to come here for a while since I love Jamaican food. I ordered half curry half jerk and everything was super delicious. The jerk was the star of the dish, I did enjoy the curry although it's more of an Indian style curry, still flavorful. The Jamaican beef patty was pretty good. I would come back for the jerk itself and also to try the oxtail! P.S The passion fruit juice is amazing!!!

I was in the salon across the street getting my hair done. And a 14 year old girl was raving about this spot. When a 14 year old raves about jerk chicken and oxtails, you know you want to go to there. And when I was done with my appt., I walked across the street into Jaimacan heaven. It's a pretty small place, but it was packed at 5:30 on a Saturday. Always a good sign! I had the chicken stew with rice and plantains. And I can't wait to go back to try more dishes. Loved it.

The food is good and fresh. We ate oxtails and curry goat for lunch and I got a jerk chicken patty to go. The bill came up to $33 for two. The valley is my second home from LA. So you know I will recommend you to eat here. Staff is great and Chef Tony always sure to check on you to see if you're good. We'll be back again and will definitely try to conch or wings.

This place is on fireeee! Had the seafood patty (shrimp and crab) and ordered the brown stew. Le boyfriend ordered the jerk chicken and my bro ordered the brisket dish. All of them were so mouthwatering and delicious. Especially the brown stew fish dish, well worth the $$. Also try the grapefruit soda they have! It's really good! The owner was very jolly and warm, made the place feel comfortable and welcoming. Really wished I lived closer so I could come more often. Tldr; new fav spot to go around studio city! Definitely try the brown stew and grapefruit soda!

Friendly service. Amazing food! Portions are just right... Not too little but not too much. Enough to pack some delicious leftovers for the next day if you'd like. If you have a chance, try the Jamaican beef or spicy chicken patties! The outside dough is soft, flaky, and light, not greasy at all. And meat filling will most likely have you craving for another one to go.

Reply to owner's comment below: My original review did not say you "used" a dry rub on the jerk chicken, but that it comes out similar to a "dry type rub RESULT" so for someone looking for a dish with more sauce on it, like I was, this was more of a tip. The reply to my first review states: "we DO NOT charge for ice only if you do not want any ice in your fresh drink". Charging for "no ice" makes even less sense to me than charging $1 for ice...which is how the menu states in a couple of spots. Oh well.

I was finally able to try Sattdown, and I was pleased. I got the jerk chicken, and really enjoyed it - perfectly seasoned. There was an area in the restaurant covered with autographed photos, and the restaurant had a nice vibe, but I was sick - so I ordered my food to-go. The portion size was perfect, and the food was flavorful.

Fine but not destination worthy Jamaican food. Friendly but muddled service. Jerk chicken was nicely spiced but was dry. Patties were alright but not special.

Perfect! Not crowded. Nice staff! EXCELLENT food (had the BBQ Jerk Chicken, highly recommend)! The Pine Ginger drink was also good (sweet). The fritters app was also good, thought I would try something else next time though. Anyhow, get the BBQ jerk chicken.

This food could not be any better. You can feel the Jamaican soul emanating from this deliciousness. Fresh and authentic, perfectly seasoned and spicy. I'm from the east coast, where Jamaican food is plentiful. Sattdown Jamaican Grill is everything. I ordered patties (vegetable, seafood and beef), jerk wings, curry chicken plate (with rice and peas and sweet plantains), a pineapple lemonade, ginger beer and rum cake. This food is like having a Jamaican grandma cooking for you...and we know no one cooks better than nana. You know when you're full, but you wish you could keep eating because it tastes so good? Eat at Sattdown and love your life!

Went here 3/29 on a Saturday and this place was hands down amazing. We had a party of 10 and everyone had nothing but great things to say about their meals. I ordered the oxtails dinner and the meat was falling off the bones. I dont know what they marinated that in but it was absolutely delicious!!! What makes the experience even better is that Anthony the chef/owner came out and greeted us. Very friendly and personable. I will def be bringing more friends here soon.

The food and service at this place are great each time I've been there. Food is authentic, good portions and reasonably priced. ***Hint*** if you check in you get a free beef patty. Just make sure you ask for it when your ordering your meal not after.

Oh Jamaican food... Yummy! Who'd have thought it was something you could find in Studio City. When we went here we tried the oxtail and the goat curry. Both were very tender and flavorful. Nice and chunky. They had good portion sizes with some great rice and plantains. In terms of service, they were very attentive. You really wouldn't realize how awesome this place is from the outside. It's just one of those hidden gems.

Most authentic Jamaican food you can get, top 5 restaurant in LA, listen up....Jah must have blessed this place, here's the move... You start with a beef patty, after you're finished bathing in it's flaky and spicy glory while sipping a grapefruit soda, move on to the jerk wings. Spicy. Salty. Garlicky. Bold. After your 2nd grapefruit pop, order the oxtail, if it sounds too funky, you mustn't be afraid. One of the most flavorful and succulent dishes I've ever had (this coming from a guy who's favorite dish is duck confit) after your wonderfully spicy and joyful experience, holler at me.

Lol Chef Tony - I am Asian, as you can see from my profile picture. And your reply just reinforces your poor management practice. FYI Chef - the Customer is always right, even when we aren't,,, instead of telling me to "get a life" - you should try taking some Hospitality Classes instead of once again, arguing with your patrons. You argued with every person that mentioned anything remotely constructive on here.

To say the food in this place is sublime would be just another understatement. I dream of coming to this place and eating the superlative cooking- everything is seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the portions are generous. Yes, the timings are not ideal, but that is the secret to the restaurant- they have one chef, Tony, and he is good at what he does. Eating there soon for sure, the dreams of fabulous indescribable deliciousness are coming on strong tonight...

Sat my ass down. Had the whole family in tow-- wife, both kids and my mama. Really wanted the oxtails since I had read a few glowing reviews on them but they had run out (will be going back there to get oxtails soon!) We got 3 entrees, an extra order of rice and shared everything between us. Stewed Chicken: Very, very good. Delicious in fact. Curried Goat: Absolutely, unequivocally, ridiculously good. Wow. I almost slapped my mama it was so good, but mama's been good to me so I just said "Pass the rice." Jerk Pepper Steak: This was a substitute for the oxtail which I've already mentioned was not available. The steak was only so-so. It was sliced thin as if it would go on a roast beef sandwich. I was expecting a chunkier "steak"-like bite. It also wasn't as tender as I wanted it to be. Rice and Beans: Perfectly cooked and mixed together. Plantains: My kids were fighting over this, I liked how thin they were cut (a larger portion on these would have been nice). Service was good. Our waitress put our white wine and my large bottle beer on ice at the table. I like this spot, I shall return.

I came here on a pseudo date on a hot Sunday in the valley. I was surprised to find a Jamaican establishment here since there only appeared to be burger and sushi joints on Ventura. Sattdown Jamaican Grill is a small joint in a strip mall that if you are not carefully looking for the signage, you will miss it. I read the numerous yelp reviews from other Yelpers and had moderate expectations for this place. My date and I shared a salad and my date order the jerk chicken while I ordered the goat curry. Most of the reviews recommended the jerk chicken. But me, being the "adventurous" one wanted to try something different.. In hindsight, I should have ordered the jerk chicken like what other reviewers recommended. My date seemed to enjoy it. As for the goat curry, I found it to be good. I never ate goat before so I had no idea what to expect as for the flavor of the meat. I found the goat meat to be soft and not gamey. The only thing that I did not like about the dish is that there were many bones in the curry. I am not certain if goat is particularly boney but half of my curry was bones. The service here was good. The servers (I think this is a mom and pop type of establishment) kept coming to our table and checking up on us which is always good in my book. Ample parking in the parking lot. If not, there is street parking. When I return, I will order the jerk chicken which is recommended.

It's so hard to find good Jamaican in LA, let alone the Valley, and I can't tell you how many times I've passed this place on Ventura not even knowing it was there. So Saturday night I checked it out while shopping at the market place. It's small and cozy and has a warm, homey vibe. The couple that owns the place is so sweet and even if the food wasn't amazing, interacting with them would make visiting worth it. I was craving the drunken coconut salmon again today, but sadly they're closed on Mondays.

This quaint and clean spot was located in a bit of a shopping plaza and is def a laid back atmosphere. They have delicious Jerk Chicken and interesting/different but delicious festivals, a little sweeter than I'm used to with a hint of cinnamon. The rice and peas were flavorful and moist and the veggies were good, though not ample enough for my taste. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely return. The chef, Tony, came around to meet us and ask how things were...really friendly. I took a star away because I love patties but the chicken one here just lacked a bit a flavor to me, though the crust was nice and flaky. Also, my friend didn't enjoy her curry veggie roti as much as I did my meal, as she kept adding salt. Also, no alcohol, not even beer. :-/

Second review- My food came out a LOT better this time! Decided to grab lunch here after an audition right across the street. Saw Tony again and he was nice as usual. The food was actually on point. I enjoyed the stewed chicken. They still have no coco bread for the beef/chicken patties. Unheard of to me. The prices are still VERY steep. Ate half in the restaurant and took the rest to go. Always a pleasure, but only when I can afford it. The stewed chicken is ONLY dark meat unfortunately. Thankfully it is enough to eat. Stingy with the plantains too.

There is everything to like about this restaurant, and not a single thing I can think of that I dislike. The food is great, the service is great, and the prices are great. We came with a party of four, and one of our friends is a gourmet chef. We shared much of the food, which included jerk tofu, goat curry, drunken coconut salmon, a salmon with currants, oxtail and more. We also ordered shrimp patties and jerk wings for appetizers. To single anything out as being especially excellent is impossible because everything was excellent, so it really comes down to a matter of preference. The oxtail was flavorful, tender, and delicious, as was the goat curry. Both salmon dishes were cooked to perfection. The appetizers....we devoured them in a hurry. Blink and they were gone. The server provided jerk sauce, which we eagerly poured on the shrimp patties and rice (rice and plantains came with the meals). I believe I will try the akee and salt fish next time, but there are so many delicious sounding things on the menu, and knowing that everything is going to be good makes future choices difficult because I want to try everything. Vegan dishes are available. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Highly recommended.

Decent food, but nothing outstanding. The owner and his wife are very friendly, and I really wanted to love this restaurant. But the food just wasn't at the level I expected. Still, a decent spot to get some Jamaican food, very positive attitude from the owner and staff, and nice ambiance.

I've been 5 or 6 times now and I just love Sattdown! Chef , I assume owner is always there cooking home made Jamaican food. It's really like you are at his home. Oxtail, curried goat, jerk...heaven!! Tropical fruit drinks, and all. Parking is kind of tough though sometimes

Amazing flavors! The lamb roast melted in mouth! The jerk chicken wings are hot & finger-licking good. The patties are perfection and the rum cake!! First time here....I'll be coming back.... a lot! Family owned. The chef, Tony, came out to greet us and his sweet wife served us. Their kids played quietly on an iPad. Love it. Ah! I was in heaven!!

OK....my boyfriend told me he was hesistant to have me move in with him JUST BECAUSE it would mean I wasn't in the same neighborhood as Sattdown Jamaican Grill. This place has an option for everyone. The jerk chicken is off the hook. I'm a vegetarian and I'll admit I took a bite off my BF's plate and I had to reconsider why I'm a vegetarian (FOR A SECOND GUYS!) Vegetarians, there's a lot of options for us here. Most of the dishes can be made with tofu, soy chicken or soy beef. As far as spices go, you can request your dish EXACTLY as you like it. I like it SCORCHING! The staff is TERRIFIC. I enjoy the chef tremedously and appreciate that he remembers how me and my boyfriend enjoy our meals cooked. Jamaican food takes time and passion to make and we are GRATEFUL for the DELICIOUS experience we have everytime we visit. THANK YOU SATTDOWN

My husband and I were driving down Ventura Blvd looking for a place to eat dinner. We spotted the Sattdown Jamaican Grill nestled in a little strip mall and decided to give it a try. We were so happy that we did! The conch fritters were hot, crispy, and flavorful. The oxtail dish was THE BEST OXTAIL I have EVER had! The jerk chicken the my husband had won him over too. For dessert, Chef Tony brought us a rum cake that was packed with fresh blueberries, strawberries, and bananas and was a perfect way to end our meal. We will definitely be back and will be bringing friends and family with us to experience the fantastic food!

Just got back from dinner and I had write a review because it was THAT GOOD. The food here is amazing, I highly recommend the Jerk BBQ chicken and a pineapple Jamaican soda to wash it down. I will be back here! Great food and great service. My boyfriend and I left here extremely satisfied with our flavorful meals. Thank you!!

My husband & I just ate here for the 1st time last night & it was really good! We tried it due to looking on yelp & seeing the high ratings & reviews. Since we were in the area, we thought "why not"! In all honesty, the decor is not much, but we're not snobs & weren't looking for or expecting anything but casual. It's a mom & pop place, which was fine with us. What was important, was the food. We split the jerk chicken & shrunken salmon entrees to get a variety of flavors & both were delicious. Sides were super tasty too, not just an afterthought. The server was just training, but she was very nice & everything came out right. We're looking forward to going back so we can try more on the menu, but so far we're definitely impressed with the food. Definitely give them a try if you're in that area. They know their stuff!

Went here after grabbing the yelp deal and seeing all of the amazing reviews. It did not dissapoint, we walked in and the super friendly owner greeted us and joked that we could sit anywhere but he would charge us extra for sitting next to the fish tank (hehe). We ordered jerk chicken and beef brisket and they were both amazing. Flavors were huge and the variety of sides you get are refreshing. After the yelp deal the meal cost us $11. For sure one of the best $11 meals ive ever had. EDIT: I've been to Sattdown multiple times since writing my original review. I really wish I had the ability to write multiple reviews because every experience has been phenominal. Easily my favorite food in LA. I've never eaten food with so much flavor. To me it really proves that Chef Tony has a true passion for cooking this food and that to me is worth more than anything.

My boyfriend has been eating here for years, he brought me the brown stew chicken to eat at the house one night and i finished that entire plate in about 5 minutes. Just today we walked into the restaurant for a quick bite, this time I ordered the drunken coconut shrimp and I must say, it was delicious. Sweet, tasty and delicious. So Fresh! I also had the pineapple ginger juice which was excellent. This place gets a solid A...for the price they put most restaurants in la to shame!

This. IS. The. Place. They have excellent vegan and non vegan options. They have a BOYB policy with no cork fee. They have an awesome aquarium with the most odd and yet fun fish around. I'm a vegan - and let me tell you - the fact that I can have actual fake chicken done in the authentic jerk chicken style is a thrill. And it's SO flavorful. I go out of my way to come to this place (I live in Weho). Also, I love that I can take my non vegan friends here without groans - cause they can have real meat while I enjoy my non meat options. And the chef - such a cool, chill dude with a real heart for what he does.

YAH MON! I went to the location in Studio City and I was very pleased. The food and the service were outstanding. Chef Tony is Good and Gracious. I started off with the soup - I had this amazing beet-squash soup and Chef Tony mentioned that he has a vegan soup line that he will be introducing. From there I had to try the Curry Goat - this is how I judge a Jamaican joint. I have to say it's as good as my Aunt G's. Good and Spicy and almost bone-free. I had it Roti style and it was enough for two of us. We didn't finish it because we had another dish coming - that wasn't on the menu! My husband who spent time in J A raved about these small fish that when deep fried you could eat the whole thing - head through to the bones. Well, Chef Tony cooked some up with rice & peas, cabbage and plantain and we were back in MO-BAY They feed you like you're family, but they treat you like a good friend! This place is small, but big in quality and flavor. If you like good, authentic Jamaican food you'll like Sattdown.

I actually have not BEEN to this restaurant so I can't speak of the atmosphere or service, but a friend who is from Jamaica brought me some food from here and it was great. I've never had oxtails before (and frankly, it sounded kind of gross) but they were delicious! The seasoning was wonderful and I really enjoyed it. This is probably just the nature of the dish, but I would warn anyone who orders it that it is rather bony - so be careful. It was served with mixed vegetables (also seasoned deliciously) and plantains. I will definitely actually GO to the restaurant now and see what it's like and enjoy more of this wonderful Jamaican cuisine.

Sattdown Jamaican Grill is a family owned restaurant in Studio City. I was beyond delighted to discover authentic, health consciously prepared Jamaican food so close to home! Chef Tony is dedicated to preparing delicious food with the freshest, most flavorful ingredients, and to making your overall experience wonderful and unforgettable. Chef Tony and his wife are always kind and welcoming, and go out of their way to make you feel right at home. Did I mention they've got the best patties in town?! Don't take my word for it. Go see for yourself.

Sattdown Jamaican Grill has, in one night, become one of my favorite restaurants! My mom and I went in tonight and were greeted by a very nice server, who sat us immediately. We ordered the Oxtail, the Jerk Chicken and a Beef Patty and WOW, were they good! The meat was falling off of the bone and all of the items were so tasty! The Chef was very friendly and checked in to see how our meal was. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to going back time and time again.

Traveling in from out of town and needing a place to meet for lunch, My work colleague recommended Sattdown. Neither of us had been. Therefore, we tried a few ( more than a few) dishes. All I can say is "yum". Curry Goat, Oxtails, Jerk Chicken main courses all good. My friend even ordered another side of the Oxtails. I also had the Fish Soup which had just the right amount of kick to not take away from the flavor. Of course, I had to try a beef patty. It woked. The Jamaican Rum Cake for dessert was rich and dense. I didn't finish it but I could have. The other dessert was a Coconut Drop. I'm not a big coconut fan but this too was pretty tasty. I will also say that our server Penny, was very friendly and had a good handle onthe menu. The Chef/owner (didn't get his name) was also very friendly as well as assessible. Sir, I shall return. Although I'm not Jamaican I left Sattdown feeling very Irie Mon!

Delicious food! Our first time here and we'll definitely come back. Chef Tony came out to greet my table, we all thought that was a nice touch. The Jerk chicken was yummy, quite spicy for a "medium spicy" so don't ask for very spicy if you don't think you can handle it. :)

Delicious food, excellent service and a Caribbean atmosphere. You'll find it here. From the time I walked in and was greeted by Tony and Nini, it was no doubt this was going to be a nice dinner experience. I work in SoCal and live on the east coast. Since I eat out everyday, having healthy, fresh and good food is essential. I ordered the snapper with rice and peas. Can you say delicious! The fish, the rice and oh boy the veggies...this was the home cooking I was longing while in the go. I am a Jamaican and have tried many Jamaican restaurants in SoCal, Sattdown Jamaican Grill is the best, hands down!!

I absolutely love it here! I've been coming to Sattdown for my jerk chicken every since I first moved to the valley a few years ago! It's also the first place I bring my family and friends when they come to visit. The food is amazing and Chef Tony and family are the absolute best! When I became a vegan a few months back, I was pleased to find Vegan Jerk on the menu! VEGAN JERK! (Theres also vegan curry and almost everything else) My girlfriend and I stopped by for some this afternoon (I ordered an extra one for tomorrow) and it was delicious as always! If you're looking for great, authentic, yet HEALTHY, Jamaican food - You gotta stop in at Sattdown! There's something for everyone...even us VEGANS! Thank you for always making me feel right at home and keeping me good and fed Chef Tony! Many blessings!

Passed by after dinner just to taste one of those patties yelpers were raving about. I've had patties in Kingston, new York, miami and other places where you find lots a Jamaicans. I've never been able to find a really good one here in my adopted state of Cali. But Wow I have to say this was just about the worst ever. What i was served was a soggy and cold wreck of a pattie. I'm pretty sure it was nuked too since she took it out of the warmer, walked it to the back for a minute, then came back out and handed me a hot steamy bag. A pattie should be flaky. If the pattie has to be nuked to warm it up theyre better off just not selling it. To top it off, the center of pattie was still cold. I'll never be back. I gave an extra star for the places cool vibe and authentic dishes on the menu.

My husband and I came to this restaurant on a whim. Are we glad we did. We were greeted immediately. The service was excellent. Chef Tony came out and greeted us and gave us suggestions on what to order. i ordered the oxtail stew and my husband ordered the goat curry. The drinks were refreshing and the food was amazing. We ate everything and wanted more. I will definitely return. The best Jamaican food I've ever eaten and it's less than a mile from my home.

It took us some time before we actually sat down at Sattdown Jamaican Grill, but it wasn't for lack of trying. A few of times, daunted by the wait at the preternaturally crowded Daichan, one of us would furtively dash across the street to see if the little Jamaican place could accommodate us. Alas, it always seemed to closed, But last Saturday night after a screening, I was in the throes of a low-grade virus and in a pretty vile mood, indeed. Abbe suggested the aforementioned Japanese joint, I suggested we try Sattdown, and lo and behold they were open. We took the plunge, and we're glad we did. The place is comfortably funky with a friendly vibe and soft reggae music in the background. We started out with Green Spinach Soup ($7 for a very large bowl, $5 for an a more than ample medium bowl). I felt the life force flowing back into me as I wolfed down this spicy concoction made from ginger, carrots, pepper and, of course, spinach. The entrees followed promptly. Abbe had the Curry Shrimp ($13), and I had the Dark and White Jerk Chicken ($12). Both were good-sized portions accompanied by excellent cooked vegetables, a mound of dark rice, and a small serving of sautéed plantains. We were sated, not stuffed. It was a perfect amount of food. The tab including tax was about $40. Sattdown is definitely not a late night place (Tues.-Thurs. and Sunday they close at 8 p.m., but they stretch it to 9 on Friday and Saturday). But for a nice meal at a great price (in Studio City, yet), you cannot beat Chef Tony Hyde's laid back little bit of culinary paradise.

Jerk chicken, rice and beans, and plantains were phenomenal, best I have had in USA. Staff was friendly and attentive, Chef Tony came out from the kitchen, introduced himself, and asked about the meal to make sure it was enjoyable. Great food, great experience.

What an awesome little gem in the middle of Studio City. It's in an unassuming "strip mall" (I don't even know if you'd call it that, it was so small) with a liquor store, so I imagine parking could be a headache occasionally. We went on a weekday afternoon for a slightly later lunch and had no problem getting both a parking spot and a table. The restaurant is pretty small, though, so I'd say a big group (4+) would probably have to fight for a table during peak hours. While we were there, there were only a couple other patrons and a bigger group probably could have been accommodated easily. Per Yelp reviews, we ordered a passion fruit juice (YUM!) , a beef patty (interesting. really is kind of like a hot pocket... I thought it was tasty, but probably wouldn't order it again), and both the jerk chicken (lunch special sized) and the regular sized bbq jerk chicken. In retrospect, WAY too much food! We weren't all that hungry, but we ended up with lots leftovers -- not because we ate little, but more so because the portions are generous. One caveat- the jerk chicken was REALLY spicy! I'm Korean so I'm somewhat familiar with spicy foods, but my tolerance is a lot lower than the avg Korean. Anyway, I had to eat a good amount of rice/plantain/veggie with each bite of chicken and ended up feeling slightly uncomfortable because of how spicy it was. It was definitely tolerable, but I think I was just surprised because it doesn't say anywhere on the menu that it's spicy. In fact, I think it says something like, you can request spicy if you want (but I think that's their way of saying we can make it MORE spicy than it already is). The BBQ jerk chicken was a little less spicy (to me) -- it tasted like the jerk chicken but with some bbq sauce added so a little more like regular BBQ chicken... Overall the food was really, really good. The service was also solid. The chef came out to say hello and answered our questions about the spicyness of the food... and our waitress/hostess/server (haha) was helpful and checked up on us often. I do remember feeling like she had almost forgotten about us because I had emptied my juice and desperately needed some liquid to tame the spicy, but she came just in time. One dislike - after we began eating, our waitress asked if I wanted more juice and I said yes, thinking that it must be free refils... but then she brought it and I asked to be sure and she said, oh no~ hesitatingly. It was so yummy we just said okay but I don't think I would have ordered another one ($3) if I had known. Annnnd~ if you're a cupcake person, there's a bakery in the same plaza a few doors down (Passion Pastries) that's awesome! The perfect end to the meal.

I ordered the Jamaican traditional meal "ackee & veggie" it came w/ rice & bean, steam veggie and plantain. It was very flavorful and it had a spicy kick to it. I also had the seafood patty it was delicious similar to empandas w/ curry flavor. Passion fruit juice was refreshing. Bread pudding was OK i had better. The service was nice and friendly. I would soooo come back again!

So good... Authentic Jamaican cuisine (the chef is Jamaican) Excellent customer service. Love the veg patty. My favorite dish is the akee with salt fish. Yum! And if you like ginger, try the pineapple and ginger fresh juice.

This place is delicious and the service is extremely inviting and friendly. I usually get the BBQ jerk chicken which is a perfect balance of sweet/spicy. I've also tried the goat curry which is very rich and yummy. Definitely nice during the cooler months, but I've ordered it on hot days too. :) When I'm on a diet, the chef creates a healthier adaptation of the jerk chicken into a salad, which made me very happy. The quality of the food and service is definitely worth the price. Whenever I make a drive up to the valley, this is definitely the spot I like to hit up. Parking can sometimes tough, because the lot is small, but it's not nearly as bad as parking on the west side. This small family restaurant is a total gem in that small shopping center.

This was the first time I've ever tried Jamaican food. That being said, the food was delicious. I would imagine it is probably some of the best Jamaican food you can get. It was delicious food irregardless. As many of you may know, I am pretty picky about food. If I take the time to write about a place and give it five stars, it is worth it. Some doofus on here named robot m, gave this place two stars. I think he may be one of the dumbest people ever. He didn't like it, saying that the food was tasteless. if you have any brains at all, you'll know that when you taste this food, it's not tasteless. there are all kinds of spices and herbs that go into making this particular type of food. I strongly recommend anyone who would like to try a new type of food, go here. Or if you've tried Jamaican food and you like it go here. I ordered chicken wings and barbecue jerk chicken. The Chicken was so tender that it literally was falling off the bone and the taste is very very good it's nice and spicy like it's supposed to be and has a little sweet taste to it. Bottom line is, try this place it is delicious!

Since my first time dining at this fine establishment, I've now patronized Chef Tony 4 times. Tony greets me by name these days. Each time I've visited, I've introduced new friends to his menu. Everyone has loved it! Today, I'm here with my friend Glenn who had already ate at Jack in the Box. Well I had a taste for the vegan curry chicken lunch special so i stopped by Sattdown. The chef delivered yet again. Since I already discussed this menu item in the previous review I will not go into detail. The dish was nothing short of magnificent. Since Glenn already ate I was a bit disappointed bc he wouldn't get to experience what has made me a loyal diner. Glenn did sample a piece of my vegan curry chicken & thought that he (and I) was eating meat. My point was to show him that he that wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Just as I was finishing my plate, Glenn decided to try the Tropical Fruit Punch w/o ginger and a seafood patty. I was fortunate to sample a taste Glenn's punch. It had this sunset look to it..I initially thought it was an alcoholic cocktail of some sort. It looked that good. I might even have to order a pitcher togo so I can add my own rum. LOL. Now on to Glenn's seafood patty. glenn isn't into writing yelp reviews so I had to pick his brain to find out what he thought about it. I wasn't settling for "it's really good". Glenn states that he enjoyed the blend of curry seasoned crab & shrimp...the patty had plenty of filling and tasted fresh. You know how some jamaican restaurants will let their patty's sit in the warmer for a really long time. Glenn adds the the crust of the patty was very moist and flakey...further adds that it complimented the filling really well.

Now I'm no Jamaican food connoisseur, but this spot (owned by Thai people) hits the spot. I came here via Groupon, and I wish there were more avail cause I am already craving their meat pockets! Come here for the oxtail or the jamaican jerk chicken. So good. But my favorite of them all is in the appetizer section. Those meat pockets! Or patties... Whatever they are, it's like biscuits stuffed with savory meat. I know they don't make em fresh, as the waitress told us that they aren't housemade but storebought (and I appreciate her for telling us). But since I don't know where to get them, I will be coming back here... Ok and the service is A OK. Granted credit card accepted only over $10 so I had a bit of an issue (long story), but it was sorted out. Take me here please!

I came back! After waiting over 2 hours to be seated (with reservations) on Valentine's day, we decided to try Sattdown again! Yes, twice in one week! Amazing, amazing, amazing. I tried the curry chicken this time and my husband had the oxtails. We absolutely loved it! We chose our own seats and received our food within 10 minutes of sitting down. It wasn't a busy night at all so we were able to enjoy our time together at Sattdown. This wasn't out typical Valentine's day dinner, but it was great! This time, the beans were perfect! Everything was great! Chef Tony came out for a brief introduction and chatted for awhile. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Jamaican dish!

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. I grew up in Hartford, CT, which you may not immediately associate with a large or vibrant West Indian community but I'm pretty sure there are more Jamaican people in the Hartford area than anywhere else in the US? Possibly? My Middle and High School served Beef Patties every Friday so I have been hooked since a kind of young-ish age. I have been craving Jamaican food since I moved to LA, so after discovering this place in nearby-ish Studio City, I knew I had to suggest my BF and I go here for dinner. We went on a Tuesday evening and it was busy, there was only one open table (a good sign right?) I ordered a Jerk Chicken patty and the "Rasta Salad" anddddd obvi a Ginger Beer. Boyf got the BBQ Jerk Chicken platter and a Fresh Coconut Water. My patty was hands down the best I've ever had - the crust was perfect and obviously homemade, kinda crispy on the bottom, and the filling was so delicious, just a teensy bit spicy, ughhhasfjlskdfj so good. They also serve the good kind of Ginger Beer that's actually from Jamaica. And the coconut water is actually just a coconut with the top cut off and a straw sticking out. GO HERE!!

Here's my input, just gave it a try and tried a variety of dishes. Upon sitting down I was looking forward to a beef patty, though they were already sold out and I ended up with a Jerk Chicken Patty (See photo) to start with, it was tasty and I would try the beef flavor next visit. For my entree I chose the combo, 1/2 Oxtail & 1/2 Goat Curry, both had a lot of bones which is to be expected just the pay off was they packed a lot of flavor which went great combined with the red beans & rice. The plantains were very thin which I would of enjoyed cut a bit thicker. Overall, this dish was delicious and I would get a full plate of Oxtail in the future. Now for dessert, I was eagerly awaiting this bread pudding all night. The owners wife who was the waitress was nice enough to bring out her husband Chef Tony. He informed me they were out of this dish and convinced me to try the Rum Cake which filled the spot. I shall return to give this spot another try. I will say I left hungry and had to stop at Dupar's for my Bread Pudding craving which I took home.

My boyfriend and I found this place driving aimlessly finding a place to eat. We struck gold with this place. Chef Tony's oxtail is absolute perfection. GO HERE FOR THE OXTAIL! Served with rice and peas, steamed veggies, and plantains, the meat of the oxtail is tender and falls right off the bone. The restaurant is very small and the set up is a bit awkward, but the food and the people who work here really make the awkwardness irrelevant. All entrees are cooked to order. I'm not so much a fan of their jerk chicken as I've had better elsewhere but there are other redeeming dishes at this place. Favorites: Chicken patty: flaky outside with moist chicken inside. This is a must have with their homemade hot sauce. The best hot sauce: not too vinegary, enough heat to make you sweat. Curry Chicken served with rice and peas, steamed veggies and plantains Passion Lemonade & Mango Lemonade made fresh daily.

I had the Jerk Shrimp. It was very tasty, the only problem is the portions are small. I left hungry. I like the general set up, the service, the speed and the taste, but for that price I think more rice or something is warranted.

Amazing place and the owner is a complete sweetheart! The food was perfectly spiced..I had the veggie roti. Def will be returning..fast svce

Think tender jerk chicken with just the right of spice. BYOB bonus with liquor store next door. I always expect Jamaican food to be cheap, but a plate is $10+. It was enough chicken though that I was able to take half of it home for a second meal.

Finally tried this place after living in the neighborhood for a year. I went twice in one week. Both times ordered the Jerk chicken. 2nd time the BBQ jerk chicken. i thought the regular jerk chicken was much better -really good- everything was flavorful. my only complain is the amount of chicken the second time seemed a bit smaller. Second time i also had the beef patty, which was good, and came out super quickly (probably pre made?) The service was efficient but not great. Will be back though, as it's a great place for lunch.

You've set the bar pretty high when your website says "ONCE YOU SATTDOWN U B BACK" but it's true. I sat my ass down, had a damn good meal, and will be back. We stuck to their vegan options which were killer, the curry and the tropical dishes' flavors were great and I was stuffed by the end. I really didn't mind the decor which seems to be a complaint on here. I'm also not sure how someone was complaining about the patties being soggy or microwaved, they come straight out of a small oven in the front of the restaurant. One more note - their hot sauce is amazing.

As soon as you walk through the doors, you're transported to a tropical paradise along with a gracious, kind greeting. Both the the hostess AND the chef were warm, personable and accommodating. There were even times where the chef came out to talk with customers and ask them how his food was. - Conch Fritters were light, crisp with just enough fluffiness to make them divine. - Jerk Chicken Patty was a nice little starter, I'll likely return just for them. They're like tasty little Jamaican empanadas! - Jerk Shrimp was nicely prepared, just cooked enough so that there's a nice pop when you bite into them. Accompanied by Rice & Beans, steamed veggies and plantains. - The Oxtail was one of the highlights of the meal; extraordinarily tender with a complex gravy that paired well with the side dishes. - Sorel/Ginger drink was so refreshing that my friend finished it before any appetizers even arrived. They have many vegetarian options and located in a plaza with ample parking, if not street parking. Again, our waitress/host was a dream! Such a sweet woman that really takes care of you, not because it's just her job, but because she cares.

As a Jamaican living in Orange County where I can hardly find authentic Jamaican anything.....this was a delightful surprise! Their curried goat and oxtail dishes were really good. The chef is awesome and came out to chit chat with us. They also have a pretty good ital/vegetarian selection and a variety of fruit drinks.

Aweome chicken Tasty fresh tropical juice with ginger in it nice veggies Yummy desserts/cakes They NEED to work on the decor. It completely needs to be redone. The headshots need to come off the walls and the fake sky removed from ceiling. The Christmas art on the front windows needs to be removed. They need to get a chimer instead of the bells. While the Thai servers (the owners lovely wife), are good, I would prefer a Jamaican female waitress to give the restaurant a more authentic feel (not a man with dreadlocks). If decor updated and staff changes, I will upgrade to 5 stars because the food it great.

First time here and had the oxtails...go SATTDOWN Chef Tony, because you did the damn thang! They are soooo tasty and tender. Loved EVERYTHING. Personal touch from Chef Tony and hostesses were an added bonus. I will be back this week for another round.

Wish 10 was a rating! great hole in the wall! had the coconut chutney salmon and it was absolutely amazing! my two year old even gobbled it up! the chef himself (also owner) came out to ask how our food was! that's the definition of fine dining!

I've been coming here the past few months and they never let me down. Best Jamaican food I've had in LA I highly recommend the beef patty, jerk chicken and jerk wings. I could eat at this place everyday. Amazing family owned and operated business...sweet people

I'm from Toronto and have been fortunate enough to experience some of the best Jamaican food that exists outside Jamaica (we have a large Jamaican community for those who don't know). Since arriving in LA five years ago I've been on a quest to find proper Jamaican cooking and Sattdown is it and then some. I've been to Coley's. I've tried to follow other Yelpers leads and tried Kassava Caribbean Cafe -- both failed to impress. But Sattdown is another, strictly positive story. My husband got the curry chicken and I got the jerk chicken which were both cooked to perfection. So flavorful. Made with real pride and Jamaican love. The rice and peas which are usually just a filler side dish on any Jamaican plate if you ask me are actually an attraction here and the homemade beef patties are a delicious must! I don't know why people have complained about the service on here because we were in and out within 40 minutes. This place is seriously good and I will definitely be returning to the ONLY place to eat Jamaican food in Los Angeles if you ask me.

My first meal there was awesome - I ordered the Jerk Chicken combo. Came with Rice, Plantains and nicely seasoned Chicken. As of a total, Ive been there half-a-dozen times, and I've enjoyed all but one meal. The curried chicken meatball special was terrible. Chicken was too hard, and didn't seem to go well with the curry it was simmered in. I've had curry many times before, and this item felt a bit rushed...just not right. A stark contrast to the jerk chicken experience I had. The owners are awesome, and it pains me to give them a 4 star review...but I went by their recommendation for the chicken meatballs, and I was disappointed.

  • Christopher G.

Just a quick update: following my original review, I got a very nice message from Chef Tony offering to re-do my meal if I came back in (unfortunately I'm unlikely to be back in LA anytime soon). I'm sticking with the three stars (which isn't really a bad review) but it's great to see a chef take critique of his food seriously. I wish the best of luck to Chef Tony and everyone else at Sattdown!

I had a Groupon for here and my boyfriend and I were really eager to try it. Turns out there aren't a lot of Jamaican restaurants around, who knew?? Anyway, we are glad we found this one! For starters we shared the jerk chicken patty as well as one that was shrimp with maybe crab? Both were delicious! I told him on the way home that next time I could just eat patties for dinner, they were that good :) For our main dishes, my bf had the tropical chicken plate. It was a winner; we both really enjoyed the flavor. I had a curry vegetable dish that comes with roti (which is like a big thinner flatbread) to wrap the veggies in. Big portions, nice flavors/spices, a big variety of vegetarian dishes, and a chef who checks in with you to see how your meal is going- what more could you want? It is a homey atmosphere and the waitress was very friendly and helped us with recommendations when we couldn't decide. We will be back for sure! The only downside (which isn't their fault at all) was that parking kinda sucks in the area, and on the side streets it was like an hour limit. Luckily we finally scored a meter spot pretty close by. If wasn't dinner time, we'd probably have been able to park in their lot no problem.

Really delicious small mini mall restaurant in Studio City. We had the oxtails and jerk chicken for our main courses. Both were abundantly flavorful. The fresh fruit drinks are delicious. The parking lot sucks, but there is metered parking on the street. I will return.

The first place I've tried Jamaican food was in....Jamaica! In this wonderful little shack on the beach of Negrill called Auntie's Thrill Corner. We tried the oxtail, jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, escovich, and goat curry. To our delight, SaatDown has the exact same items, and they are 97% as good. The spices are strong but well balanced, the meat is tender, and the sides are really good and really complement the meal. The oxtail just melts in your mouth and the goat curry basically kicks you in the face with flavor. The escovich is really light but they don't mess around with spice- when they say spicy, they actually do mean it. Scotch bonnet peppers are no joke. They also have vegan items that sound tasty. Anything sounds tasty drenched in their amazing sauces. I definitely recommend this place- its worth the difficult parking essential to any Studio City experience.

I "Sattdown" tried the food and wanted to leave soon after. The food was terrible and tasteless. Besides that the service was pretty good. Very nice staff and on the spot speedy service but if you go there to eat do not expect to be satisfied.

Went here for a friend's birthday, and admittedly had a Groupon, which influenced the choice of venue. The restaurant is cute, unassuming. The staff is friendly and attentive, and not overbearing. The restaurant was not crowded the day we went (in fact, other that a few take out customers, we may have been it for lunch), but then again, it was early and the studio crowd tends to opt for a bit of a later lunch. We both started with beef patties. I admit that I had never had a "patty" before, though I was there with a friend who speaks fluent Jamaican-food. I found it to be very tasty. It was nicely seasoned, though not spicy -- I am not a fan of overly spicy food (she, however, is). I would definitely get one again next time, and would like to try the other varieties of fillings (my waistline might think not so much). I ordered a steamed ginger salmon for my entree. In a word...outstanding. The fish was a generous portion, and was good quality salmon. It was delightfully prepared...really to perfection...moist, yet cooked through, which is how I like it. It has some carrots and shaved ginger on top, and was delightfully flavorful. I will definitely go back for this. It came with rice and beans that were good -- not the top of my personal list of sides (that's a personal preference thing, not a reflection of preparation), but they were tasty. My friend had chicken stew -- as a cook of Jamaican food herself, she was a little more critical. She did comment that "yah it was pretty good food, and I'd come back" at the end. She's a bit of a tough one.... Parking is meh at best. Skipped the couple spaced available in the lot -- my car is tiny, but trying to keep it ding free and the parking lot is a crowded little thing. Parked down a side street and that worked just fine. This is an individually run restaurant, rather than a change. Food is good. I'd recommend going. I, personally, will be back. Already craving the salmon, dammit!! :)

Came with a party of 25+, we basically ttook over the place. One chef, two servers, & great Jamaican food! I had their tofu curry sserved with veggies and plantains. But had tried their jerk chicken, jerk tofu, coconut salmon, & chefs speciality goat. Everything was delicious! Its also a BYOB kind of place. Which I don't mind.

Ok so I have been to Jamaica several times and I think I know real carribean cuisine. The jerk at Sattdown is not exactly the same as you will find in Kingston. It has a slightly different flavor and I actually like it MORE than the truest Jamaican jerk. There are very few authentic Carribean restaurants in LA even though we have a few pretenders. Two sisters is in Chatsworth is good but more Creole than Jamaican. Cha Cha Cha is good too but not really authentic. Sattdown is the ONLY REAL CHOICE if you want authentic Jamaican cuisine. I would have awarded four stars here but they did one thing to get the rare 5 stars from me: they lit me on fire. I asked for the jerk chicken to be as spicy as they could make it. They delivered when most places do not. My need for heat was finally satisfied here. They will also make it mild if you ask but please don't, real jerk has heat and flavor from the scotch bonnet peppers. Without them the flavor is just not as good. Meat patties and drinks were also good here. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. Next time I will try the oxtail and some of the other dishes.

My boyfriend and I got the beef patty the curried goat and ackee and saltfish. He's from Hartford, CT which has a huge Jamaican population and is Jamaican himself, having grown up on his Nana's ackee and saltfish and curried goat. He thought the food was spot on! Delicious beef patties and the flavorful goat and ackee and saltfish topped off with kola champagne made for a perfect meal. Ambiance was nice and staff was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!!

I loved this place. Had the blackened salmon cooked to perfection... well spiced, lots of flavor with the rice and peas. Mmmmm. Their spicy salad dressing is also good and I took a bottle of their hot sauce to go. Service was AWESOME, our server was knowledgable about what goes into each dish... which goes a long way with a pesca-vegan like me! I asked a million questions and she answered each one with the patience of a saint. Music is good... they should open up the dance floor some nights and throw a party... I'd be the first in line! Also, the chef came out to greet us and ask how our meal was going. LOVE. Went back again and was feeling adventurous so I tried the Ackee... yummmyyyy. Also, I tried their sour sap juice... tangy with flecks of nutmeg and to me, had a pine-ey quality to it. Delicious!

It's a nice place to go to after a day at Universal. Nothing fancy The restaurant is hidden in a strip mall, so make sure you keep a look out. My friends and I ordered the jerk chicken, jerk BBQ chicken, and curry chicken. I got to try a little bit of all of them and they were all tender and tasty. The jerk BBQ chicken was my favorite though. -2 stars for the waitress who told us pay an extra 15% as tip noting that it was not included in the price. I would have already put that 15% anyway as the service was good. However, the fact that they didn't even ask, but rather insisted on it is, to me, unacceptable. Tip should be something a server earns from good service, and not forced onto the customer.

How can you beat this for lunch during an unusually cold winter: "comfort" beef stew, rice, plantains and some broccoli thrown in for good measure. Leave it to Jamaican food to warm up December. Side note: on the back of the menu, towards the end of a very comprehensive intro to the restaurant, the owner is about to explain why she was named Sattdown and then leaves us hanging with "..." WHAT??

This place was so good! Their Jerk Chicken meal was the best I've had in a long time! I'm mos def coming back here again but it will be for those oxtails! Their service was really good. Oh! Cant forget about the jerk chicken patty either which was freaking amazing!

Being from Chicago, I was a bit skeptical about getting legitimate Jamaican food in the posh "suburb" of Studio City! I can honestly say I was wrong about this place. The food was excellent! The meat patties, the jerk chicken and the barbecue jerk shrimp were simply amazing. If you're brave enough, take home a bottle of their home made hot sauce...very tasty, but it definitely brings the heat!

Just left Sattdown Jamaican Grill and had an AMAZING meal! We ordered Ackee & Saltfish and Orange Crusted Salmon. Also took veggie, chicken and beef patties home. Are you kidding me??? Everything was yummy and authentic. The Best! Kudos to the chef. I will definitely be back. Only wish.....Red Stripe (no alcohol) :)

i stopped here to grab a snack, just randomly. im glad i did cause it was delicious. they have Jamaican sodas, awesome little meat pies, veggie ones if you don't like meat, the manager was nice enough to serve me even tho they were not open for another hour. A++ customer service. good cheap food, soda you haven't heard of, and a friendly person to help me chose my food is what makes sattdown as good as it gets.

Perfect meal is jerk chicken + soursop smoothie. The jerk chicken (skin is absolutely as crispy as it seems) would recommend getting all white meat, marinade penetrated white meat pieces better imo. Soursop smoothie was indescribably delicious-it's an absolute must try unless you hate tropical fruit.

Jerk BBQ chicken/Curry chicken combo was spicy and delish . The mango sorbet was served in its own skin, highly recommend!. They pulled some meat pies out of the oven as I was leaving"" next time getting the shrimp/crab meat pie!!

I have been driving by Sattdown for months thinking one day I will give them a try. I am Jamaican and it is hard to find good authentic food in LA. Finally this week I went in and met Chef Tony. After looking at the menu briefly, he said the magic words "oxtail is our specialty." I sat down to a plate of delicious and tender oxtail, rice and peas (gungu peas for all the Jamaicans!), steamed veggies, plantain and a delicious ginger pineapple drink. Everything was excellent, well seasoned, perfectly cooked and the homemade pepper sauce took it over the top. This will be a regular destination for me going forward. Don't do what I did and deny yourself the treat, come to Sattdown to enjoy great food and personal service. Such a treat.

Ok, I've been waiting along time for good Jamaican in LA. I've done Cooley's, and others...NO! But Tony @ Sattdown is doing it right. His Jerk is just right on point. Especially now that I've been there a few times and he knows how I like it... SPICY!! His rice & beans are the truth. While it might not be like the jerk stands I few up on in Ochi, for Los Angeles it's the best!!!

Best Jamaican food I've had in LA, hands down! I frequent Sattdown on a weekly basis, not only because of the great food but because of Tony & his Wife. Great people giving you that Home Style cooking with a Home Style vibe. RECOMENDATIONS: If you're into spicy food, you have to try the BBQ Jerk Chicken. If you're not, go for the Tropical Shrimp, Ox Tail or even the regular BBQ Chicken (Still has a little kick to it) or even a Patty if you're not too hungry. You HAVE TO TRY the fresh Passion Fruit Juice, my favorite thing there. We always find ourselves ordering seconds. Hope this helps, ENJOY!

Used the promo they had and thought to give it a try. I ordered 1)jerk chicken, I like hot and spicy but I never thought it would that hot. I mean, I like spicy foods. I eat peppers but this one too much for me to handle. Lol! I didn't even finish the plate. 2)Beef and shrimp patties, they are good but its ok. 3)tropical juice, I don't know if it a daily or juice of the day. But it was refreshing. Anyways, I love food. I eat every nationality dishes there is. But from my experience eating here, it's not like once u tasted the food you gonna come back. Probably not. But I'll try the oxtail and give it one more shot. I'll update once I visited.

Note: I do a killer Sebastian from Little Mermaid impression so imagine this review in that voice. I'll give you a second....now continue. I found this place when it was called Ginja Lions (?) and then it changed to Friedel's and now it's Sattdown Jamaican Grill. Not sure what's happened over the years, but just like the third wife/husband you never had, this one's a keeper! FLASHBACK: Ever since the GoatGate Debacle of 2009, when it was called Friedels, I never came back. I'll spare you the details, but it involved my coworker ordering a goat dish containing a small unassuming piece of goat meat which led to trauma, heartbreak, and fear all wrapped in one. I just remember him eating something, eyes glazing over, lips quivering, eyes twitching, throat contracting--I thought he was having a stroke. Worst unassuming piece of meat...EVER. Not sure if it's the same owners, but after we found out about the name change, I convinced my traumatized coworker to head to the new Sattdown. When we got there, we then sat down (drumshot!). Lemme tell ya, best risky decision we've ever made for lunch!!! I've had the jerk chicken twice, and it comes with rice and "peas" (as the Jamaicans-mon call it, aka kidney beans), plantains, and a mixture of veggies. Spicy, but cooked really well. The chicken was nice and juicy. I've had some undesirable jerk chicken in my life and this one was really good. Came with three large pieces of chicken-- a leg, a thigh and a breast. Bones in, so be careful! The veggies could use a little awakening, but they're aight. Good sized portions! You really have to try this classic. My traumatized coworker has had the oxtail plate twice, which comes with the same accoutrements as the jerk chicken. The first time he went for it, he was skeptical (refer to GoatGate Debacle of 2009), but the cook said if it wasn't the best oxtail meat my coworker has ever had, he wouldn't charge him for the meal. So my coworker went for it. And DAMN, we didn't get a free meal because it was FANTASTIC. Second time he had it, it was equally delicious. The cook said he works VERY hard to make sure it's perfect. Of course, y'all know I love drinks. They have those fresh coconut drinks, A+! Oh and the passion fruit iced tea has real bits of tangy passion fruit in it, A++! I KNOW!! Right?! And you HAVE to try their rum cake. It was suggested by the waitress/co-owner (?) and she did good!! Soft, moist, creamy, so much more than just a chocolate cake with rum in it. And the after-taste of this cake was fantabulous. Taking all my food suggestions can set you back a bit in cost, but if you really wanna go cheap, go during lunch (for lunch specials) and just order water to drink. You shouldn't go over $10 with that, you cheap ass bastard/bitch, aka let's become friends because you think JUST like me. Service is friendly. Food came out in A SECOND, but it didn't look or taste like it was prepared that fast. I'm talking about McDonald's fast. Good environs. I like!! Jamaican food has been redeemed!

A great dining experience! It's been far too long since I had Jamaican food. A lovely lil small place with maybe 8 tables...5 along the main wall and 3 on the opposite wall. Quite a tight space overall....just one step above your typical Thanksgiving get-together at big mama's house with the Big folks tables and the "other" tables. Be warned(or aware)--This is a pure family operation-- their kid is running around with his...skates... bicycle..skateboard...every few minutes. Well, that was when he wasn't playing ScoobyDoo on the X-box in the corner. But on to the food- Amazing Jamaican patties- we shared a beef pattie and a shrimp and crab one. Both were very tasty, but I'll give the thumbs up to the shrimp and crab one which was a bit spicier than the beef. A lite flaky and buttery crust filled with ground seafood, herbs and spices. Very damn good She had the oxtail, which was great, tender and full of smoky flavor... and I had the curry goat. The goat was fall off the bone tender...braised to perfection. Chef Tony has mastered this dish. I don't have a huge appetite, but I had no problem enjoying and slurping every bit of this down. The light fluffy rice and black beans really complimented the rich and savory curry goat. I could've eaten an entire bowl of these alone. Both plates are also served with plantains and a small salad. The house ginger lemonade was tart, biting and very refreshing and a nice finishing touch to the meal. The Jamaican hot sauce I requested added another level of spice and sweetness to the meal as well. My date couldn't handle the heat of my pattie and dish, but the Chef's wife was very accommodating to her requests for water, napkins, clean utensils(haha). if you're on this side of town....by all means make a point to stop by and enjoy what Chef Tony is cooking up here!!

Jamaican Patty with Jerk Chicken- Fantastic! Perfect crust, flavors were on point. Super Spicy Wings- first off, their hesitance to serve us spicy was off-putting. Secondly, the wings were not spicy at all!! I'm super sensitive to spice and I had no problem eating them... Oxtail- too much bone, not enough meat, too much fat also. Plaintains were good. Jerk Chicken- good portion, tons of seasoning which was nice. chicken cooked perfectly. Curry Goat- great curry flavor, a lot of meat. My only reason for giving 3 stars instead of 4 (1 already deducted for some misses on the food) is because of the service. It was awful! We waited a couple minutes to get water, about 10 minutes to put our food order in and another 15 when we were waiting for our check and paying our check... This restaurant is really small and the place was dead. There was no reason to wait so long for service. The owners are really nice but I really don't like waiting around forever when my dogs are waiting for me at home!

Nice small venue with a nice variety on the menu. The rice and peas don't compare to my aunts bit it will do. Had their jerk chicken and stew chicken both times I was pleased. I love their festival bread. The sorrel was not up to par bit overall liked the dining experience.

I really appreciate restaurants that not only pride themselves in their ability to produce flavorful and memorable dishes that leave a mark of "wow, that was good stuff!" on your tummies, but also restaurants that really take pride in the fact that from a little bit of hard work and passion, one can turn their interest into something that they can share with others. This is what I got upon entering the quaintly decorated Sattdown. True to all other reviews, Chef Tony and his very hospitable wife were just amazing. My party and I were greeted with a big smile as we were guided to our tables. She was so nice that she even suggested we sit elsewhere in the restaurant as she thought that we would freeze near the door way due to the windy, wet weather conditions. What a sweet heart! Being that this was our first Jamaican eating experience, we expressed our lack of knowledge of this flavorful cuisine. The owner's wife was so helpful and enthused to give us recommendations and to explain what some of the items were on the menu. Thank God we asked! To get a complete experience of what Jamaican food is all about, I'd recommend ordering the Shrimp Patty and BBQ Jerk Chicken Wings as appetizers, Oxtail entree and the Jerk Chicken entree paired with a refreshing glass of passion fruit juice to compliment the spiciness and succulent flavors of the dishes. BAM! This is the perfect combination. I'd go into detail on each of these flavors individually; however, words cannot capture the overwhelming flavors of all these items. It's a shame that I live far from this place; however, I'll definitely keep this place in mind whenever I'm in the area. Jamaican food is now officially on my "i love you," list. Now if only someone would open up a restaurant in the OC........

I absolutely love this place. Everything is so delicious. It is a hidden gem in the valley. Food is always hot and fresh made to order. My favorites are the beef patties and of course the jerk chicken. The staff is very friendly and Chef Tony is so personable. He's passionate about cooking and his food shows. Everything is cooked with love, always flavorful and very tender. If you are craving Jamaican this is the place to go.

Came in 15 mins before closing and the owner still took our order. Had the oxtail, drunken coconut shrimp, jerk chicken and curry goat. Everything was good, very authentic. Goat was very good, IMO this is a good dish for people eating goat for the first time. Big ups to the chef! Jah bless

This is the best Jamaican food I've ever had!! The jerk jumbo shrimp was prepared perfectly and for once they took us seriously when we asked for super spicy. The cook lit us up! Lol The service was great and I love the fact that the chef actually came out to make sure our food was spicy enough and we were enjoying it. We are definitely coming back.

I've traveled widely through the Caribbean, from Belize to Barbados, the smaller Bahamian islands, etc. It is truly difficult to find a Caribbean island stateside that does it right. Sattdown is really an authentic hidden gem. We had jerk shrimp and curry goat. Both were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Both of our plates were licked clean. We like our hot sauce hot, and the homemade doesn't disappoint and was full of good fruity heat. You can buy it there by the bottle too! Friendly, fast service and chatted with the chef before we left. Food prepared lovingly is always the best! Atmosphere is simple, small and straightforward....but we didn't come for sparkly dimly lit setting. We came for da real ting, and found it. Will definitely return.

We went here last weekend and had a bad experience. I ordered the Jerk Chicken which although the seasoning was tasty, was mostly made up of chicken bones and barely had any meat. The vegetables on the side were bland and seemed of the store bought frozen variety. The only plus of the meal was the passion fruit juice which was actually tasty and refreshing. The worst part of our meal there was at the end when we got our check and told the waitress that we would be using our Groupon. The waitress scolded us telling us that we should have told her that when we ordered and "it was the right thing to do." I don't think we did anything "wrong" and since when did we ask for an etiquette lesson on how to redeem Groupons? And how would telling them when we ordered changed anything? Would they have then given us more bones and less chicken? All in all, bad service and bad food.

Best Jamaican food in LA, period. Enjoyed the oxtail plate today and it was wonderful. Nice size portion, delicious flavors, tender meat, and an overall great vibe. I would recommend this place to all foodies. Cannot wait to come back next time and try more menu items.

This is the first Jamaican place I have tried and I didn't really like it. WHy the four stars then? Because I actually picked up lunch for my Jamaican friend and HE really liked it. He is a better judge than I. He had the ox tail meal and really enjoyed it. He usually goes to Derrick's. He told e to give this place 5 stars. I had the jerk shrimp and a veggie patty. The shrimp plate was fine, but the veggie patty was meh. It was ALL spinach and tasted like dirt. I would have preferred more of a varriety of veggies. 5 stars minus one for the popeye patty.

Wow, I must be really good at choosing extraordinary places for lunch. Thai Vegan, Cevicheria, Jitlada, Spice, and now, this lovely place. My family and I are not Cheesecake Factory type diners, we like unique, exotic, strongly flavored dishes; anything from durian to raw sea urchin to chili lime grasshoppers, you get the idea. Also, we're the crazy type of white people who purposely try to push the Scoville scale for fun. That means thai chilies, scotch bonnet peppers, manzano peppers, habaneros, and ghost peppers. We've tried it, we like it, and we eat it regularly. Now, reading some reviews for Sattdown, I was expecting serious heat and we specifically requested the food VERY HOT. The chef even came out and smirked mischievously confirming our request. Lol, nice. Well, turns out the food wasn't really that hot at all, but it was intensely flavorful, comforting, and delicious. The hot sauce they provide punched it up a bit, but to be honest, everything was really good as is. I had the veggie curry roti and it was pretty darn good. There's nothing I hate more than over cooked mushy veggies that have lost their texture. Chef Tony must really love and respect vegetables to give them such expert preparation. Dad was head over heels for his goat, husband loved the chicken, we ALL loved the veggie patties, but the real star of the table was mom's stewed snapper. Dang, it was good, such a complex medley of flavors all perfectly married in an explosion of awesomeness. The accompanying veggies were so good too, okra, heck yeah! We did mention that we expected more heat and chef Tony brought out this wonderful scotch bonnet relish. Deeeeelicious! He also promised that next time around, he'd really kick it up with the jerk rub. We did take a jar of the jerk rub home, and lemme tell you, it's freakin' good. The heat hits you right in the face as you open the jar and the flavor, although spicy, is mellow enough that you can eat it without sweating too much. I would incorporate it into homemade mole, spread it on a tempeh burgers, add it to hummus, even use it with hot chocolate. For meat eaters, this would be a sublime marinade for poultry. Ugh, obviously I get sidetracked dreaming up recipes. Anyways, what I also loved is the chef's enthusiasm for his food and his willingness to interact and joke around with his patrons. It isn't too common to have such a personal experience. I've eaten a lot of Jamaican food before made by Jamaicans, but I'm by no means an expert. All I know is, it was good. Really good. Cute restaurant, genuinely nice people, GREAT food. What's not to love?

I was excited to try jamaican food and this place didn't disappoint when I tried it a few months ago. I should have spent more time chewing my food though (i was hungry!) because halfway through my jerk chicken I felt myself swallow a small bone- i ate the bones! Yes, i said it and I definitely wasn't at kfc. Because they chop the pieces pretty roughly, there can be bits of bones so just eat carefully! Love the flavor though.

Been wanting to come here for a while and finally stopped in today. Definitely did not disappoint. First off the service is great. The chef, owner and waitress were all amazing and even ended up talking to the owner for a while after dinner. The food was also on point. We did the curry goat, oxtail, and jerk ribs and everything was delicious. I would say the curry goat seemed to be the favorite for us but all very good. Then we went for the rum cake and it was insanely good. Will definitely be coming back soon. Also, try the passion fruit soda!!

Situated in a strip mall, the place is pretty small and not overly fancy. However, the food tells a different story. I ordered the jerk chicken and conch fritters. I told them to make the jerk chicken extra spicy and boy...that was the spiciest jerk I've ever had in my life...Don't mess around...I think they use scotch bonnet (similar to Habanero) but I love it...finished everything in my plate. The conch fritters was good..good batter but they didn't give you that many conch..bummer...but the great jerk chicken merits a 5 star review for Sattdown! Can't wait to come back!

Jerk Chicken anything here is awesome! I stop by for a couple of jerk chicken meat patties, when I need a quick bite to curb my hunger. There is ONE meat patty you should stay away from - the shrimp. They use TINY baby shrimp that our doused in a salty, mushy goo. It was overall too fishy to even finish. If there is one thing you MUST try here - it's probably the ox-tail. So many people have already raved about it, and majority rules (: Service is also very friendly. P.s There passionfruit juice is super refreshing!

Menu suggestions for those of you frantically checking your phone for menu suggestions: Drink - Passion Fruit Iced Tea (deliciously homemade.) Appetizer - Any of the patties (Think of them as homemade flaky-crusted "hot pockets" filled with awesome. I prefer the chicken/shrimp) Entree - Jerk Chicken Plate (comes with sauteed broc/carrots and spicy rice/beans) After dropping into the dining room on a whim one afternoon, I've found a new favorite in Chef Tony. Working solo this afternoon before the dinner rush, he took special care to be extra helpful, offer menu suggestions ("Got some fresh coconut water today!") and brought out food that was so jam pakced full of flavor, spice and home cooked comfort. I'm certain anything I would have ordered would have been just as flavorful -- so experiment and have fun. The biggest green flag was that, throughout my meal, a handful of customers came through to do pickup orders. I was happy to see that each one of them were regulars, greeted with a warm smile and a "Hey, mon. No worries" attitude from Chef Tony. Around the end of my meal, I heard him speaking to a woman he hadn't seen since the holidays and she asked him how he was doing. He simply replied, "I don't have a thing in the world to complain about. Count your blessings and you'll never have time to worry." Great, authentic food and a smile. What more could you want?

What can I say, other than they did the damn ting. I got the stew chicken, beef patty and a side of oxtail. Everything was made just right, the meat was so tender and seasoning was on point. For those complaining about décor knock it off you don't serve down home cooking in a cheesecake factory atmosphere. The chef personally asked how my food was more than once, he takes pride in his cooking and you can taste it. I will definitely be back, it felt like I was eating in my grandmothers kitchen amongst family, his wife was very personable too.

here is the response to my review from the owner; {Comment from Tony H. of Sattdown Jamaican Grill 1/21/2013 « Hide well this is a woman that slept with a jamaican and had him cook for her, so now she is an expert in jamaican food, if cooking my jamaican food more healthy without MSG OR BLACK PEPPER AND USE GOOD OIL, then i don't give a dam what you say.} I would like to say that if this is the reply from the owner wow...My review clearly does not personally attack anyone to include the establishment. I only stated my disappointment in the food but that the service was good and friendly. After receiving this type of sexually based inappropriate comment from the business owner I can say without a doubt my review and perception of this establishment was right and will not be coming back. I'm glad I let my friends and coworkers who were about to go to this place know about the owners comment and all agreed to never go there or recommend anyone to go here!

I went here with a good friend of mine on 3/28/10 for lunch. The place is located in a small, unassuming strip mall, but we found it easily using our GPS. The interior was painted sea-blue and tastefully decorated with lots of excellent pictures that Tony, the head chef said he painted himself! Very talented. We ordered the following: -Jamaican Beef Patty ($3.00): Rectangular-shaped pastry filled with savory curry ground beef. The crust was nice and flaky - the interior well-seasoned. Very yum! 5/5 -Jerk Chicken Plate ($9.99): My chicken came out as thick chunks of white meat... well-seasoned on the outside, but a little dry on the inside. However, the red beans and rice + fried plantains it came with tasted good. 4/5. -Ackee and Saltfish ($14.99): Now this was an interesting surprise! We didn't know what Ackee was, but it's this strange but delicious creamy yellow fruit that grows in Jamaica. In this dish, it was sauteed with salted cod fish and vegetables. Although this was the first time we had Jamaican food, the dish tasted as I would imagine Jamaican home cooking to taste like! 5/5 -Sorrel & Ginger (2.99): This was a fruity red drink flavored strongly with ginger. I forgot what Sorrel was...I think cactus fruit? Anyway, it was pretty refreshing on a hot day. 4.5/5 During our meal, Tony the chef came by a few times to ask if everything was fine. He was very kind and even gave my friend and I free samples of "sour-sop smoothie", which was really excellent! If I'm in the area again, I will definitely go here again!

So, today I told my boyfriend I would take him out to lunch.. Yeah.. I know...I'm a kick ass girlfriend... We were rolling down Tijunga Avenue about to head towards Toluca Lake when I had a lightbulb moment and thought of this place. I'd never been before but remembered the good yelp reviews. We get there and take a seat. The restaurant is in a small strip small and is easy to drive by if you don't know it's there. Once you go in there are about 15 tables so very quaint. The menu had a lot of options. My boyfriend settled on the oxtails and after much pondering I decided to get the curry goat. Both of our entrees came with veggies and rice and peas. Can you say delish? Both entrees were well seasoned and super tender. And the portion size was good too. I had the lunch special so it was just enough. He had extra oxtails to bring back to the apartment. (He better hope I don't eat them when he turns his back). They also had fresh juices. He had passion fruit juice and I had this passion fruit pineapple lemonade. They were both quite refreshing. I will definitely return here!

One of only 2 Jamaican restaurants I recommend in all of LA county. As a native Jamaican it kills me the number of places that call themselves "west indian" or Jamaican and in actuality the food tastes more Latin of some sort. No there are no "empanadas" in Jamaica! This place is much more consistent than Coley's in North Hollywood, which is a definite hit or miss, depending on the cook that day. The owner and his wife are great and take a lot of pride is serving good food consistently. And even better - I requested something that wasn't on the menu called "manish water", something that probably wouldn't appeal to most Americans so they understandably don't offer it, but he made it for me and it was ready for pick up the next day. I was ecstatic! Very nice people and the food is delicious.

I am definitely not a fan. We came in around 6:30pm. There was absolutely no one in there, which made us kind of wary about going in. We got seated and the first thing I noticed were no Jamaicans!!! What's up with that. I later read an article on the wall explaining that this is a "fusion" restaurant. ok...well lets see...So we ordered the veggie and jerk chicken pocket things. Those were super tasty and the hot sauce was just that. We then ordered the Ginger drink and the Guave juice drinks. Very good. For the meal we got Oxtail and the Tropical Shrimp. There were more ox tail bones than meat. very small pieces too. Now in terms of taste, it was light and tasty. In terms of portions, very small. I had jerk chicken at the Cheesecake factory and it was more tasty and the portion was huge. Just sayin...I don't think I'll come back here. It was ok but that's about it. The problem I have is that I used my miles to get a certificate to go to this place. I want my miles back!!! The funny part was the couple next to us. The girl was on the phone the whole time talking to her friends/family and her guy had his head burried in his soup. hilarious.

I love this place. The food is amazing...especially the plaintains..mmm. You can bring your own beer or wine for a small corkage fee - maybe $3 per person and there is a liquor store next door. The chicken patties are also amazing - kind of like empanadas.

Delicious! I haven't had a lot of Jamaican food but this was definitely a good experience. My husband and I came here on a date and it has a super cute inside. It makes you feel like you are inside of a hut in the Caribbean or something. The patties are delicious. We ordered the jerk chicken and the ground beef one. Both were great. We also ordered the oxtail and the jerk chicken BBQ meal. Both had a unique flavor and were quite large. The oxtail wasn't for me but my husband liked it. The rum cake is also very interesting. It has a good flavor and isn't too heavy. I also liked that fact that it's family owned and run.

Mr. B craved something savory and delicious, so we headed down to Sattdown. We already knew what we wanted, a bit of curried goat for him and braised oxtails for me. The stews came out, and were both so good we could barely share. My oxtails were melt in your mouth lovely, with a slow heat that was just good and shows that these were made with love. Definitely prefer Sattdown to Coley's, which is a few miles away on Magnolia.

What a wonderful little hole in the wall Jamaican restaurant! We got a $10 for $20 deal from yelp and went on Sunday for dinner. The place is very small but since we arrive early we have no problem finding parking spot. Since some of the yelper recommended jerk chicken and jerk bbq chicken, we ordered 1 of each. Both dishes tasted great. The chicken was tender and full of flavor. The rice and the plantain were also delicious. I've decided I proffered the jerk chicken dish because the flavor of the spice really came through in the chicken in this dish and leave you wanting more. I'm definitely a fan now and will be coming back to this little place to try more dishes.

This place is amazing! I went two times so far. The first time I got the curry goat, which was excellent and the second time I got the BBQ jerk chicken which was really yummy. A few people at my table got the oxtail and I am definitely getting that the next time I go!!!!!

My family's first visit but definitely not the last. A rare five star review for great food and impeccable service. We had the beef and chicken patties, and the jerk wings for starters. Each dish had the right balance between spices and meat. To cleanse our palette, we ordered the spinach soup. It had just a slight kick to it but enough for my kids to enjoy, I on the other hand downed the entire bowl. Finally the main event...we had the oxtail, beef brisket, and mango chutney chicken and the savory taste of all three dishes put our hunger to rest. The consistency of the sauce was good, not too thick or too oily. The portions were very generous and prices were very reasonable, what more could you ask for? Dessert, of course. We had the coconut gelato, actually my kids ate it so quickly I didn't get to taste it. Oh well, reason to go back. What a great dining experience...made it all the more special since we were celebrating my birthday. It was a real treat and my kids couldn't stop reminding me on the way home to leave a five star review! Thank you again, see you next time....much love from Claremont.

A very fun experience! A group of six of us came here to experience Jamaican food for the first time. This was a very quaint and mom-and-pop type of restaurant. Our waitress seemed more like the owner and gave us great recommendations. Beverages: I had the passion juice which was very sweet and refreshing! Sadly, I drank it in about 30 seconds because i was so thirsty! I wish I had been able to savor it for a bit longer. They do not serve any alcohol, but there's a liquor store next door and you're allowed to bring it in and drink it without an additional charge. Appetizer/Side: I had a Jamaican Beef patty which is a staple food choice for their cuisine. It was a square puff pastry filled with seasoned beef. I really enjoyed this. It was very tasty and light. Our table enjoyed a side of oxtails which came highly recommended by our waitress. The dish was very flavorful and delicious, but sadly it was more bone than meat. =( Entrees: Bbq Jerk Chicken, Jerk Chicken, Orange Crusted Salmon, Jerk Shrimp, Brown Stewed Snapper..... Each dish was served with a side of rice (w/ had some sort of red beans in it), some sort of veggie mixture and plantains. I enjoyed my chicken dishes and even added some more hot sauce to give it an extra kick. My friend said her salmon dish was VERY citrusy. I think a bit too much. The Jerk Shrimp was thoroughly enjoyed without a drop of food left on the plate. The snapper was very intimidating. The fish was served in its full form. It's a bit difficult to manuever and remove the bones, but once you get it out, it was good to go. Dessert: Coconut Ice cream and Chocolate Raspberry Sorbet. The coconut ice cream was very interesting. It had corn and little bits of green things. My friend really enjoyed it, but we have no idea what the green things were. The owner tried to explain, but we couldn't quite understand. The chocolate raspberry was also very good. this one was straight forward with no surprise ingredients!

Came here for the first time with a group of 10, so I had some high expectations about this place, and it was the first time for all of us. I took it easy and had the jerk chicken and OMG it was fantastic! Now I've had Jamaican food before but this rules over everything! The rice and plantains were a nice add to it, plus the beef patty that started me off was hot and spicy too. The owner even came by to see how we were doing and joked around with us. They do not have a liquor license but it is BYOB which I liked. Place is tiny so it's suggested to take reservations on the weekends. The restaurant is in a little tiny strip so parking may be an issue, but not horrible. It's not that far off the highway which I liked as well too. Now the only problem is debatin how many times a week I should go there.

Yo Zevan F., I'm calling you out too. The people you were referring to that "aren't Jamaican" who run the place, is Tony, the Jamaican owner's family. Yes, he branched out and married an Asian woman so she runs the counter-- while he's cooking and working hard in the kitchen. He's straight up from Jamaica, learn about it instead of judging places by its cover. I had an amazing experience.

I've never had such tender jerk chicken before. It was a little too spicy for me but the bf loved it. So yummy! The chicken stew, and plantains were also very good. They also have this drink called "sorrel and ginger", OMG it was so delicious! The sorrel sort of tastes like a mix between kiwi and strawberry, and the ginger gives the drink an extra kick! Such a wonderfully refreshing combination. I DO think it has sugar in it though, so those of you who don't normally consume soft drinks (like me... I'm a H2O girl....) it can be a special treat.

Try the drunken tofu - it's divine, for us vegetablarians.. they make drunken shrimp etc. as well and I'm sure it's great. This plate is good for vegetarians - just go - we had 4-5 dishes, and they seem cool with ordering a veggie version of pretty much anything. Apparently they're cool with BYOB to boot!?

Finally good authentic Jamaican food in LA. I thought I was gonna have to wait until I go back to Brooklyn, NY to get some real Yard food. Thank you Satdown you will make LA so much more bearable to me. I had the oxtail which was soft and falling off the bone, the hubby had the escoviech fish which he loved ( a miracle because he is suuuuuper picky) We had a groupon but they just got a forever customer. Loved it!!

I ordered late (seriously like 15 m before closing time) and they graciously took my order and told me that they would be still there even after close for me to pick up my order. I got their signature items - oxtail, bbq jerk chicken, and the chicken patty. The patty was so-so and probably not a do over. I really enjoyed the oxtail and the chicken. Excellent flavors. The rice was also super enjoyable. I also got their fresh homemade juices: passion-fruit juice and sorrel & ginger juice. Loved the passion-fruit and really enjoyed the sorrel & ginger (ginger was nice and refreshing while not overpowering). Love to come back in the future.

The food is not authentic at all the festival is not even close to being the real thing trust me I've been to jamaica and eaten the real thing omg. Any time you see a restaurant with any fusion added its not authentic please don't represent a countries food if you can't cook it.

The passion fruit juice is a must, really flavorful but not overly sweet. I think passion fruit and I think Type II Diabetes but it wasn't sweet just a well balanced refreshing drink. The jerk chicken wings were really good a solid four stars but not the best jerk flavor I've ever had. That titled goes to my old neighbor in San Jose originally from Kinston. In terms of commercial, Sattdown is tasty! The are extremely friendly. The veggies and rice/beans were fine but its really about the meat and sauce. I wasn't a fan of the Jerk BBQ. I read its super popular but I now know I like my jerk strickly jerk with no bbq.

SATTDOWN ROCKS!!! When I first moved back down here from San Francisco, I searched everywhere for a good Jamaican restaurant as I was spoiled with the Bay Area restaurants. I was guided to Sattdown and have made this my top Jamaican restaurant. Their Ackee & Saltfish is my favorite, and reminds me of being in Jamaica. If you've never had Ackee, you must try it here! If you like Goat Curry or Oxtail, this is the place to have it. Everything I've ever had at Sattdown is really good, and brings me back to Negril as the spices in the food are truly authentic. Tony (the chef) and his wife are super friendly people. Tony will come serve you himself sometimes which is really nice. I LOVE JAMAICAN FOOD!!! I actually drive from Orange County to eat at this place. Definitely a must!

ok, bought a groupon and tried a place I've never been to before... trying to branch out... I'm not a super spice lover, and this food was really really spicy and really really good. Thanks for a great dinner.

Pretty good food. Nothing amazing for me though. We had a beef patty which is sort of like a ground beef empanada. Not sure if it was fresh from the same day because they keep them in a warmer already made. Also had the jerk chicken wings. They were pretty good, nice seasoning. My meal was the BBQ ribs. The portion was large and the ribs were very meaty. Comes with veggie and plantains. Overall ok. The service was good. The chef Tony comes out to meet everyone. His wife is the server and is also very nice. Cute family owned place.

REally cool little spot, wouldn't have probably found it without a Groupon but will definately go back. Hidden in a little corner strip mall, but has that 'stepped into another world' feel when you go in, I like the eclectic simple decor without trying to be all pretentious (though the christmas window paintings could probably go by this time of year). The variety of little pocket appetizers are good for a group and are similar to empanadas or turnovers with unusual fillings. I had the orange-garlic salmon which was lovely, cooked just right with nice crisp veggie and plantains (which are a little different - thinner than other Brazilian/carribean places but really yummy I could have used as side dish of them!). I love that the juices are served out of jam jars and the staff was on it without being overbearing. The rum cake is really unusual too, but strangely addictive especially the gooey spicy center. The chef (owner?) seemed genuinely into making sure people enjoyed his food and came out with a big smile to say hi. The group I was with all had the jerk chicken which I'll definately need to come back for. Good little genuine valley gem with personality.

I found a review on Sattdown in one of those eatery LA Mags months ago. I couldn't believe there was a Jamaican-West Indian Restaurant under my nose and I didn't know it. In the valley..?! I had to drop by and let my taste buds do the test. * Gotta look for it* You will pass it so make that quick turn into the little strip mall. Two visits: 1st Was in a rush so 2 patties ( chix and shrimp) and a pineapple soda to go. Both were nice hot ( heat and flavor), flaky, seasoned nice. I didn't mind the shrimp ( as someone posted to pass on it). It was so full of curry and seasonings...I enjoyed it. Hey Chef-will you add coco bread.?! 2nd This time sat down (funny) on a Sunday their evening hours ( 4-8pm). I had the oxtail dish. Okay,..I could have easily licked the plate but I restrained myself and took the rest home to enjoy it. Meat was tender/seasoned and made the way oxtail should be. Rice and peas-yum. plantain was sweet/hot and definitely done for the plate ( not sat around then re-fried for the plate..I know the difference). The side veggies were not the usual mixed veg what you usually get in other establishments. The veggies were carrot/broccoli/cabbage -thank you for seasoning it. Order lemonade-good Great homey atmosphere/service is cordial/and they let you enjoy the food. No hassle which I like. I'm from NYC so I know and had good Jamaican food... This is the real deal and would recommend going there ! Oh..one more thing..music is everything and its cliche ( who cares) but play roots n culture, A little Bob, Beres or ska. That would create a little but more atmosphere for Sattdown.

It's a very low key, family place to eat. I think it's a husband wife team who run it and their kids are around and the food tastes authentic to me! I have driven past it many times and never seen it and now I will notice it all the time! The serving portions are huge!!!! Apparently a clean plate shows Chef Tony the food was good but no way can you eat it all! He even made quite a few appearances and it's always nice to see the person behind the food. We shared a beef patty and the jerk wings because we were starving. The beef patty tasted like a beef pie but with the addition of what looked like home made hot sauce - even yummier!! The wings are large and include extra chicken bits ie not the standard little wing you get at wing places. A little fatty for my liking yet so flavourful and spicy. The couple near us ate every bit of the chicken wing, ending up with a clean pile of bones which put our attempts to shame. I tried the bbq jerk chicken which comes with nice colourful veggies, plantains and rice with beans - the beans were a little dry but that's just my opinion. I ate one piece of chicken and the veggies and was done - took the rest home and is even better the next day. The jerk is great and the bbq is good too but the more bbq the less you taste the yerk. Either way my nose was streaming! Friend tried the jerk ribs and the meat was very tender, flavorful and fell off the bone. Came with the same accompaniments. We liked a lot. With the food and passionfruit juice we were sad not to be able to fit in dessert. The selections sounded delicious! Back for sure!

After spending a week in Turks & Caicos and falling in love with the super flavorful cuisine, the hubs and I lamented that once back in LA we'd be hard pressed to find decent Caribbean fare. Problem solved! This place has some AMAZING oxtail and curry goat. Seriously, it's as good as the stuff we had at a local's spot in T&C (A Hole in the Wall). The meal took us right back to our island vacation. This is definitely an addition to our list of LA favorites.

I have been craving Jamaican patties the last few days. That craving, combined with excellent Yelp reviews and a good Yelp deal, brought me to Sattdown. They had three different meat patties on the menu: beef, chicken, and jerk chicken. Always wanting to be thorough in my research, I ordered one of each. I started with the beef, and it had good flavor and a little bit of a kick. Next, I moved onto the chicken, which was a little disappointing when compared with the beef. It was a bit on the bland side. Finally, I finished with the jerk chicken, which was much better than the regular chicken. The jerk seasoning gave it the flavor the regular chicken lacked. As compared with other patties I have had elsewhere, these were very good but far from the best. I would like to visit Sattdown again to try their other dishes.

A good solid 4 stars for a tasty food from a mom-n-pop place. The kid was playing with his toys at the back of the restaurant. I like that... it makes it feel more authentic to me. Both my friend and I got the Spicy BBQ Chicken. My friend has experiences with Jamaican but it was my first time. As a first timer, I like the flavors. It is definitely a good, hearty kick of spiciness but the waitress kept coming by with water so I was ok. I like the dish which includes some medley of veggies, 3 large pieces of chicken (a drumstick and 2 breast pieces), and plantains. I would come back and get take out if I am ever craving for a hearty meal that is not too much. The portion is perfect for me... I was 70-80% full after cleaning off the plate but it might not be enough for some people.

I read the good reviews online, and thats why I came here. On Saturday night around 8pm. we got there with a good amount of hunger. I have eaten Jamaican food before in Miami and wanted to find a good place in LA. We ordered the beef and shrimp patties. The beef patties were cold, and the shrimp patties had excessive pepper. The dough was very dry. Was able to eat half of the beef, and only a quarter of the shrimp. We also ordered a plate of the Jerk Chicken that I was looking forward too. I took a bite of the chicken, and it seemed super hot, like almost out of the microwave, and the taste was overwhelmingly spicy. Could not eat it anymore. As we informed the waitress about the food and to cancel the order. The manager wanted to charge us for the patties saying we ate half of it. I was pretty upset, and instead of arguing the with the lady I just gave her the $6.00 dollars and left disappointed. The lady also accused us of eating there before, like as in we came in to get a free meal. Pretty insulting to your customers. This was our first time, and the last time. From what I have seen from the Owners responses to other yelp customers, they are not apologetic and will disrespect the patrons who give bad ratings of this restaurant online.

Since the first day I walked in this place I have always been greeted with love & great food. Tony always takes time out for each customer and says thank you as you receive your food ! The food is amazing and is made with love ! I work two jobs and can't remember the last time I had a day off and decided since I had a little down time to come and visit one of my fav. Spots! I told Tony " I've been working hard like a jamaican so I had to make time to eat like one" his wife is the best as well and I love the warm spirit!! This is a must visit !!!

Like the ad says - It pays to discover! The last time I had Jamaican food, I had not yet met my wife. That's how long ago it was. My memories of the experience were not good. But somehow I was excited to try Sattdown. Sattdown does not disappoint! The waitstaff and chef are attentive and helpful. The food is amazing (they even let me taste first!). It was soo good we came back a few days later and bought seconds for lunch the next day.

The Sattdown Grill homecooks batches of savory and authentic Jamaican cuisine that tastes like it is straight from "yard". Indeed, the restaurant's owner, Mr. Tony, is a Kingston native who regularly leaves the kitchen to spread irie and personally welcome his guests. It is endearing to see a true family business in which the husband and wife work as a team, and the children are there to learn from their parents' role-modeling. In full patois, Mr. Tony takes your order; then he labors over each plate himself. The chargrilled jerk chicken is blackened in spices, rather than swimming in stew, as some chefs prepare the dish. Sauce comes on the side for you to get your chicken as drunk as you please. I prefer mine just a little tipsy because--truth be told--Tony's jerk chicken doesn't need any sauce. On rare occasions, the chicken has been drier than I preferred, but my next visit always confirms that I've wisely bestowed upon the Sattdown the accolade of "best jerk chicken in LA". As a quick side to whet the appetite, I pick up a patty or two. Available fillings include: jerk chicken, curry chicken, beef, seafood, fish, and vegetable. A personal favorite, the seafood patty features bay shrimp and imitation crab. Ironically, in all my visits to the Grill, I've never had any dish other than the jerk chicken. Why should I go elsewhere when Mr. Tony IS my go-to for jerk chicken, a staple in my survival? As the years come, I will surely try more on the menu. I look forward to it as much as I encourage Mr. Tony's family and hope for the Sattdown's longevity and success. Big up!

Tasty, authentic island cuisine served in a funky, eclectic setting that reminds me of the off-tourist spots in the Islands, mon! Everything was great: the BBQ's chicken, the orange crusted salmon, and the Jamaican patties, but the piece de esistance was the snapper escabeche. Yes, it is serve whole, with a glazed fish eye staring up at you. Yes, it is fried to a succulent crispness. And yes ,it takes 15-20 minutes to prepare (fresh and hot, with a sweet and spicy sauce studded with freshly sauteed veggies). Good ahead, try it anyway. My party of four went on a Groupon, but We'll be back soon to try the many healthful vegan wonders the menu promises.

I came here with a friend and I had the Salt Fish and Akee. It was okay, but I don't think I would order it again. My friend had the Mango Chutney Salmon.. again okay. The oxtail soup was really good and worth a re-order. I have to go here again and try the Jerk Chicken everyone has been raving about.

Love LOVE LOVE!!! thats my review :) I have been eating the marvelous cuisine at Satdown since they opened. Tony, Nini and the family are such a delight and I'm honored that they are feeding the masses a menu that satisfies all! I've celebrated my birthday here as well as other little stop-ins..and everyone that has come with me are now regular patrons of Satdown as well. Many thanks always and forever my Satdown Family!!! :)

Tony and his family are so sweet and make a mean Jamaican meal!! I've come here a few times and always bring anyone who is willing to come along. I'm so surprised how many people don't know and don't understand the Jamaican flavors and have a misconception. Jamaican food is savory, hearty, and just gives you a feeling of happiness. Everything they have is just awesome. I've tried the following Lamb w/ Apricot Oxtail Ackee and Saltfish Curry Goat - best goat I've ever had, perfectly cooked Jerk Chicken Patty ( BEST!! YUM YUM!!) Beef Patty Fish Patty I will be back again and again!

This was our first trip to Sattdown and I have to say it was one of our favorite foodie experiences ever. The food, the service, the atmosphere were just stellar. My wife and I ordered the Beef pattie, shrimp pattie and the jerk chicken wings for our starters. The pastry crust on the patties was sooo light and flaky. Both patties were wonderfully spiced and when I added the house hot sauce, were just the right heat for us. The jerk chicken wings were literally in a class of their own. I have never had jerk done so masterfully. Smokey, spicy, buttery, moist and succulent, food of the gods. I sucked the bones dry. Next I ordered the oxtails, one of my favorite foods. Chef Tony did not disappoint! The were so tender they melted in my mouth. The sauce was rich and deeply satisfying. I liberally doused them in the delightfully tasty house hot sauce adding heat and a slightly fruity layer to the oxtails, blending into a melange of flavors I will always savor. Again, I sucked the bones dry. The veggies were fresh and crispy and were the perfect compliment to the rich sauce of the oxtails. The rice was fluffy, moist and not sticky and the plantains were sweet and tart. We drank the passion fruit juice which is so refreshing with spicy foods. To finish off we had the coconut ice cream with frozen mango in the center which I doused in the house hot sauce. Yes, the hot sauce was that good. The fruity undertones blended well with the coconut, and as the sauce isn't really salty, it was sweet and spicy heaven. (I'm Thai at heart) Between my wife and I, we had so much hot sauce we left the restaurant in a floaty endorphin buzz. Chef Tony came out a few times and asked if we enjoyed the meal. I appreciate a chef who takes personal interest in his customers. We talked hot sauces and jerk sauces and had a wonderful foodie conversation. Between Tony, his wife Nini, who is hostess and server, and their delightful son, we truly felt comfortable and at home in a restaurant we never ate at before with people we had just met. A truly wondrous feat. This isn't just food, it's art.

My first time eating Jamaican food and it did not disappoint! I had the oxtail which was delicious... so tender just like pot roast and really fatty. It came with rice, yummy plantains, and some veggies. I also tried the jerk chicken which was charred and good. Would recommend!!

Went there the day after Christmas for lunch before the long drive home and were very impressed. We got there early and were the only people in the place. We ordered the jerked chicken and of course the oxtails. Both dishes had just the right amount of heat, the oxtail and chicken extremely tender. The salad and rice are a nice compliment and the portions are just right. We'll be back.

A very nice place to eat. I've never really had Carribean-style food until we stopped by at this place. I had the Jerk Chicken and it was phenomenal! My boyfriend tried a 'sampler' and was certainly impressed. The exotic flavors really came out in our meals and we will definitely be back again!

This place is a hidden gem in Studio City! Tucked away in a small plaza on Ventura Blvd, one can easily miss this place. But once you try their food you will always come back. The parking here is easy and there is usually an empty spot around dinner time. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The food is flavorful, however, it might be spicy for some people out there. But I'm sure they can accommodate your preferences since they are very nice at this restaurant. I've tried their Jerk Chicken plate, oxtail plate, and bread pudding (which they occasionally make). They were all very good. The jerk chicken was crispy on the outside, and soft, juicy and tender on the inside. It tasted flavorful, and fresh. It came with rice, strewn with some type of small beans. It was really good, and interesting. It also came with mixed vegetables cooked with herbs, and spices. That was very good too. Lastly, it was served with lightly fried plantains. This dish was memorable, and truly tasted home-cooked. Next is their oxtail dish. I first tasted their oxtail when my boyfriend and I were deciding whether to get it or not. The owner said, "let me give you a sample." After that, my boyfriend ordered it, and I will never forget how good it tasted. It was infused with a lot of flavor, herbs, and slow cooked for a long time. The meat almost fell off the bones while we were eating it. But be careful, this dish is a little on the oily side. But if you eat it once and a while, I'm sure it won't be a big deal. Lastly, their bread pudding was unforgettable. The owner told me they try to make it healthier than most bread puddings by not using butter at all or using it sparingly. If I remember correctly, I think they used soymilk in it as well. Anyway, I recommend trying this because it was really moist, soft, and had a nice balance of flavor with not a lot of sugariness to it. In terms of ambiance, this place is probably only suitable for a work day lunch or a to-go order. The interior needs updating. It is dreary inside, with outdated furniture, poor choice of interior paint (which needs to be replaced), and the arrangement of their counter, cash register, and soda display cooler is not inviting and welcoming. Their lighting is bad, and the the restaurant doesn't evoke an open, inviting feeling where you can enjoy their excellent food in an inspiring atmosphere. In fact, it feels tacky inside. This is why I gave it a 4-star rating. Hopefully in the future the owners will change this about their restaurant. Until then, don't bring your first date here. Lol. Enjoy, and hope you like this place for its food.

Hit or miss. The staff is excellent, good service. The food is questionable. I've had chicken here twice that I hated. Beef is usually good. The $3 nibble appetizers taste great and are quite filling. Since you really need to know the menu or the food might be bad, I won't come back.

I was completely bamboozled by most of your reviews who claim this is the best Jamaican restaurant in the city of Los Angeles. I'm going to assume most of these posts are fake or you all have no idea about Jamaican food, including you vegetarians who chimed in as well. I ordered brown stewed chicken and got something that taste more like beef stew complete with potatoes, WTH? There was not a hint of scotch bonnet pepper, garlic, or ginger (main ingredients of brown stewed chicken). This was accompanied by rice and peas that was not cooked in coconut milk (main ingredient of rice and peas). I'm also trying to figure out why I'm looking at broccoli on this plate!!!!!! Broccoli does not grow in Jamaica and is not found anywhere in Jamaican cuisine. What i thought was Jamaican food turned out to be bad Chinese take out!!!!! I noticed the folks who run this joint are NOT Jamaicans, which on it's own means little, however they have little skills and know how to pull off foods rich in taste and history!!!!! Stick to what you know. I will NEVER patronize this establishment again!!! I'm especially calling you OUT if you posted anything over 1 star!!!! Signed, Still looking for good Jamaican in the City of Angels!!!

I am 1/3 Jamaican and I cannot recall EVER having legit Jamaican food ever. I work over @ CBS on Radford and have driven past this place numerous times on the way to work, there is a nice big sign and it had sparked my interest. Sattdown, Jamaican Cuisine. Clearly legible while driving by the place. I ordered chicen, beef, and jerk chicken patties to snack on throughout the day. I also ordered the curry goat plate. I must say the chicken patty set the stage, I was skeptical because I don't have any other Jamaican experiences to base this off of. It was super flavorful, if I had to give you a comparison of what the pastry tastes like, I would say it's close to the empenada's from the pantry but the meat is way more flavorful. I tried the goat curry when I got to work, lots of bones but it's a stew. Totally smart. There was soooooooo much flavor in the goat meat. The rice was meh, I should've had the rice and peas instead of plain rice. Plantains (bomb) and a small side salad with some home made dressing/salsa. Arugula, carrots, onions, and a few other things (small). I am really looking forward to eating my other two patties later and to make another trip and try the oxtail and various other plates they have. Total 5 stars, mainly because I arrived when they closed when I first went and the owner was super nice and I didn't want to inundate them to cook after cleaning the kitchen, she gave me a menu and was extremely polite the whole time instead of shooing me out of her business to finish closing.

This place is extremely overrated IMO. While it had plenty of spice (which is always a good thing), the chicken lacked any discernible flavor. Could it be a bad batch? I could taste hints of the jerk rub, but it felt dry. I might not be a fan of dry rubs perhaps. The greens tasted a bit funky too. I did enjoy the spicy rice and plantains, and despite my critical review of the chicken, it was still decent.

Mom and Pop at it's best. I grew up in my mom's chinese restaurants in Orange County. I would curl up with my Batman blanket on the cargo shelf of mom's stainless steel prep table, reading comics and napping while Mom cut up fresh veggies and meat before the afternoon rush. Sattdown took me back to that. Not only was the food delicious and homey, the owner's little boy has his own little TV and playstation in the corner where he hangs out. Ok onto the food: We've tried the various Jamaican patties (basically little meat pies stuffed with beef, chicken, or crab, with a good kick of spice to make it interesting. Love all of them. You can't go wrong with either the Jamaican Jerk, or the BBQ version of the same. They are slap your gramma delicious, with strong flavors, sweet, savory and spicy all at once, and are served with red bean rice, veggies, and plantains that compliment everything perfectly. The Chicken stew is another great homestyle dish that is tender, comforting, with notes of cinnamon, cardamom, and nice heat. The Oxtail stew is the stuff of dreams! Not for those who mind putting bones in their mouths and sucking the marrow out of life, but if that sounds good to you, this is where you want to be. The service is friendly, the food is fantastic. What else do you need?

Yuuuuummy! See you have to realize, my hubby & I had just returned from our Honeymoon in Negril & still had the delicious flavors of the Caribbean on the mind.... thank youuuu Sattdown! We weren't planning on eating out and had just stopped to grab a to-go menu... until we spotted the patties, ohhh the patties. Hell no were they gonna escape our grasps. Instead, we got a menu and 2 patties (1 spicy beef/1 spicy chicken) and both were killer, not even sure which one I liked more, both were so yummy (although mildly spicy, perfect for my taste). The lady at the front counter was also really sweet. Very friendly and she told us that they made their dough from scratch and based on the flakey buttery goodness that was their dough, I'm completely certain such was true. Fast forward another month or so (because that's how long it took us to return, delays included), and we again had the patties (because they are that good) along with a plate of the chicken stew, served with fried plantains (always a great addition), steamed veggies (cabbage, carrots & such) & some type of tasty lentil rice. I have to say, the meal really reminded me of some down home, chef grandma inspiration and I definitely enjoyed it. If it had a single downfall, it was the fact that there were little chicken bones dispersed throughout and I'd prefer if they were removed after cooking because I know they serve a purpose by dispersing flavor into the stew... Last note, the owner seemed really nice as well and we were chatting about our honeymoon and his dreadlocks by the time we left : )

From what I can gather, this place has had 3 different owners. I'm not sure what that's about, but I regardless, I have been looking for a place that served Jamaican food for years. I found one place that I will not mention, but it was over priced and the workers were extremely rude. A friend brought me to this place and I was very pleased. The food had a home cook feel to it. Everything was fresh and packed with flavor. When I say everything, I mean the one dish I had which was a chicken dish. Nice thing about this place was you got a good amount of food. I was plenty full, but then again I don't eat much. My friends that I went there with could not stop raving about the dishes that they ordered. They also had a really good dessert menu. Limited, but good. If you are into ice cream, then you have to try their unique ice cream flavors. For now, I think I found my Jamaican food spot. At least until the change owners again. lol.

This was my first and certainly not my last time at this incredible find. I love this place. I was able to meet the owner Tony he was very kind and patient with me as I explained that I was a newby. He gladly explained the dishes as I pointed as the went by. I really loved the fact that we explained how important it was to make the meals health ( I was so thankful with his explanation of NO MSG). Thank You Tony, I will make it a point to bring my hubby back. You are so awesome. Will see you soon:)

My boyfriend and I had dinner here last night using a Screaming Coupons deal. Food- DELICIOUS!!! We started with the ginger beer, which was zippy! It had a unique taste, but had I noticed that they served alcohol, I would have gone for a Red Stripe. We each had an appetizer of a Jamaican Meat Patty- ground beef and spices in a pastry. This was the highlight of the meal. It was bigger than I expected and I was full after eating it, but it was amazing. I am craving it now! My main course was the Tropical Chicken- a chicken breast marinated in tropical fruit juices, served with rice/peas, fried plantains and mixed vegetables. It was fantastic. My boyfriend had the Jerk Shrimp that was served with the same sides as my dinner. He enjoyed it too! Service- It felt like eating in someones home. The owner/chef brought out our food personally and checked up on us. He was very nice. The server was nice too and attentive. Ambiance- It's small and was full on a Saturday night. It has a cute island theme with a sky facade on the ceiling. Fun environment. We will definitely be back!

This place definitely knows how to treat their customers well. They were technically closed already and still accommodated my friend and I. Just for that I'd give 5 stars. They did not act like they were in the rush to close and food was great. Yummy plantains! and the Passion fruit juice is a must!!

The food here is incredibly flavorful! Sometimes you eat food and it's good and well-made and sometimes you eat food with a lot of soul, at Sattdown you get a healthy serving of both. My GF and I cleaned our plates, here's what we had: Oxtail and the Jerk Chicken meals, after a delicious JerkChicken Patty starter. All the dishes were grade A. The blend of seasonings and sauces was perfectly combined to create rich and deep flavors. Even the champange flavored Jamaican soda complimented the meal. Despite the great meal the best part of our visit was Chef Tony and Mimi's hospitality. It's not often and perhaps rare that restaurant owners ever make their guest feel so welcome. Thank you Chef Tony and Mimi.

I just flew in from NY where I had great carribbean food at several restaurants, so I was looking for something comparable in L.A. I even brought a friend with me who's from the islands and we were both impressed. I got the jerk chicken and it was on point. I should've ordered it spicier though (I like my jerk chicken regretfully hot.) This was my first time trying the sorrel too, and that was understatedly sweet but with a nice bite of ginger to it. The total bill was about $15. The atmosphere was easy and relaxing between the island decor and reggae music as a score. This is definitely going on my list of restaurants to frequent.

Went with a couple of friends who would regularly visit Jamaican restaurants in the UK. Chef Tony was awesome, very friendly, and the food was really tasty. We eat many different foods with exotic flavors, but this is definitely a treat with the different spices. Must haves are Jerk Chicken Pastry, Fish Pastry, and supposedly the Veggie Pastry although they were sold out, which is probably a good sign. (Make sure you eat these with their very spicy, but tasty home-made sauce) Oxtail Curry, Awesome Goat Curry, Really Tasty SPicy BBQ Jerk Chicken, Really, really good... Now we are talking traditional here, so dont expect a dry chicken breast with sauce. This is all slow cooked, meat on the bone, and dont be scared to pick it up with your fingers and suck up all that sauce. Oh and the best thing, they dont sell alcohol but you can grab some wine or beer from the liquor store next door. Makes dinner a lot cheaper. Will definitely be back..Sorry we ate the food so fast, no photos, maybe next time.:)

Best Jamaican food I've had. Found this place with Restaurants.com . However when my husband and I went in, we totally loved the place and decided against using the coupon. It's a small cozy restaurant. Looks like a hole in the wall, but the food is amazing. The chef and staff are great! We talked with the Chef. Even bought some hot sauces. The price is great. Can't wait until we take our friends with us next time. Maybe with a larger group, we'll use the coupon. Almost forgot....we loved the oxtail!

I love this place! The meat patties are delicious, the jerk bbq chicken is flavorful and tender. You know you have excellent chicken when you can easily pull it apart with your fork. Now you can share with a friend, as I did, after all it does come with a portion of rice and beans, but if you're hungry I suggest you order your own dish or order one main dish and get a side dish or appetizer to go along with it. The setting is simple but inviting and the people who own it welcome you with a smile and much kindness.Great service plus fantastic food, equals me returning to this place! Hooray you tasty restaurant you!

You know how sometimes you go to a restaurant and have a wonderful experience the first time around and the next time it's slightly different? Then perhaps the third time that you wanted to make the final verdict turns out to be almost unrecognizable from your first wonderful experience? Well, those restaurants are such hit and miss to a point I personally would prefer not visiting because I will never know what I will be getting that day, but at Sattdown, it's consistency at it's best! Went by Sattdown again this weekend and wanted to relive my initial experience of the place. Want to know what's awesome? Chef Tony and his wife remembered me and my fiancee? HOW COOL IS THAT? Be straight up honest, these owners are so genuine that when they take the time to remember you, it's always a meal so worth having! I can also guarantee that I'm not the only person who vouch for the same sentiment... They are just great people... So wanted to try something new this time around... here is what we've ordered... BBQ chicken meal: Solid 2 pieces of chicken breast perfectly prepared (moist, juicy, and absolutely no dryness!) Delicious sauce on top served with rice and veggies makes this a delicious and healthy treat! Oxtail: Oh wow... I read some reviews on here and wanted to try it this time around and sure enough I was not disappointed! The sauce is absolutely wonderful as it's full of spices and flavor! It's not your typical sauce where you just simply see that sauce, but you really do see all the components that goes into it and I'm telling you, the sauce will compliment whatever it is you have on your dish.... it's that good! (I've even asked Chef Tony if they make it in a jar!!! LOL! I'm sure that would be a huge seller!) Fire mouth wings: Chef Tony recommended this last time around saying how good it is... so when I gave it a try this time around, he wasn't joking! It's like an intricate buffalo wings but it's not your ordinary buffalo wing sauce... it's spicy yet full of spices to make the flavor seriously soaked into the wings.... This dish alone would make me happy!!! I will always get this every time I go there from now on! Dessert: Recently they've incorporated desserts into their menu, and so we've decided on the Cocunut Mango gelato ball... I'm not even going into details but if you like coconut, and you enjoy mango, in your life time you better not miss out on this.... I thought the coconut gelato at MELT in the malls were good... this one blow it out of the water! It's a perfect dessert shortly after your delicious Jamaican cuisine! Service: What can I say... I had to update this again so use your imagination...terrific, attentive, warm and inviting, just what every restaurant should strive to be like I've mentioned in my initial review. If you have not try Sattdown, I strongly recommend that you do! I do intend to eventually try every single item on their menu. So until my next update keep up the terrific work Chef Tony! P.S. One down side... parking is absolutely horrible!!! I hope they continue to do well and relocate to a nicer location with parking and more spaces... I'm sure they will be packed with customers but the current parking situation probably turned many new customers away....(Try take out if you can't find parking!)

Only my dish was a four, the curry goat chicken dish The Jerk Chicken and Ox tail dish was how should I say it...amazingly spiced?... hahaha not spicy but like you could taste every type of spice that chef tony rubbed up into the meat... I think his kids and wife were there? not too sure... the kids were playing videogames in the little corner waiting for chef tony to close up or something. So cute! Our server was very attentive and kind even though we weren't sure what to order at first. Get the Passion fruit ice tea! It's like a tropical explosion in your mouth! :D chef tony seems like a really chill, cool guy who takes his cooking seriously as well as it shows in his dishes. Spread the word! Bring your friends

In short - Lived up to the all of the Yelp hype. Decor and interior - fantastic fun. Food - Had the jerk chicken, which had some nice spiciness and a whole lotta heat. And my lady friend had the tropical chicken, which was as flavorful as the jerk, but on the other side of the taste spectrum. Make sure to get a fresh juice. We had the pineapple ginger and the sorrel ginger. Both were delicious. It was a little too warm inside, especially for a warm summer afternoon eating spicy food, but it oddly fell into place as it seemed like part of the experience. Will definitely go back and try some other items.

The best place in LA so far to get an Oxtail dinner. I just love it not too spicy, if you do want it spicy just let Chef Tony know. He will hook it up. Try the veggie patties they are delicious! The prices went up some probably at the beginning of the year, but its definitely worth it.

Soooooo, I was a little shy to try this whole-in-the-wall jamaican spot after a bad experience at another restaurant in Santa Monica. However, a friend reassured me that this place was the BEST. I couldn't agree more!! SO MUCH FLAVOR in the food!! The owner, a super nice and FUNNY asian lady asked if i wanted anything else, and i almost ordered another ox-tail "to-go". And i RARELY eat red meat these days. I also finished my friends plate of Akee & saltfish!! WOW!!! I can't wait to go back! Oh, and dare I forget FRESH YOUNG COCONUTS on the menu as well!! Gotta get one of those cracked open before your meal. mmmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

I had the urge for Jamaican food after taking a vacation to Negril this summer so I searched on yelp and found Sattdown Jamaican Grill was really close to my house and had excellent ratings. Today I'm off work and the wife and baby are away, so I thought I'd go satisfy my Jamaican food urge. I met Chef Tony as I walked in and I got that ya mon kinda chill vibe, very cool. Tony is a really friendly nice guy and an excellent chef. Its obvious a lot of pride goes into his business and his food. He suggested the oxtail, curried goat, and the jerk chicken. I took the sure thing, and very very impressed with the jerk. It was way better than anything I ate on my trip and seals the deal on jamaican food, i'm officially a fan. Can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. 4.75 stars, really as good as it gets, except for not having red strip. also don't expect anything more than some real good grub, its a casual place

The food reigns supreme! Ignore the hydroponic store, liqueur store and herbal dispensary. Pay no attention to the dry cleaners, mobile phone store and the wig shop. Expect a laid back (slow) Caribbean style service. Expect paper napkins and plastic cups. Expect great value. Expect the best flavor Jamaican (Caribbean) food. The Goat and the Oxtail are amazing. The patties are also a subtly spicy treat.

I found out about this place because they were doing a deal on livingsocial.com . I know one of my friends is half Jamaican and always looking for a good Jamaican food, so we went one night. Very small place, but good YUMMY food. Did not give me a stomach ache like Coleys lol. The owner is also very cool, and very down to earth. I got the jerk chicken (excellent and not too spicy) and my friend got the vegetable rotti (she said it tasted just like her Grandmas). I would definitely come here again :]

I've been here a total of four delicious times. I've had the jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, and oxtail and loved every single bite. Last night my man ate the tropical chicken and blurted out "i just want to lay in this"...so, it's that good. Go, eat, enjoy, and pass on the love.

This place was great! Great tasting food great people the chef and I think his wife came out and asked how it was with smiles all around and gave us a free meat pie. I am definitely going back there! We have the conch fritters ox tail and a whole snapper all were great!

My sister and I were visiting from Oregon and trying to eat our way through Los Angeles. Someone suggested Carribean food and we chose this because it was close to where a friend lives. We ordered the conch fritters and salt cod salad to start along with juices - sorrel/ginger, sour sap and passionfruit. Then we had goat curry and jerk chicken. All of it was amazing. The conch fritters were wonderful and the salt cod salad was hands down everyone's favorite. The stewed salt cod is fishy and salty but tender and delicious and the lettuce and tomato salad was a perfect foil for its richness. The juices were really interesting and delicious. The sour sap is kind of milky and the sorrel/ginger was purple! The goat curry was quite good. It was a bit goaty and tumericky for me to say it was my favorite, but I see that is my problem not the curry's problem. The jerk chicken was really, really good. Not burn your face off spicy, but with a little heat and very moist and tender. If we lived closer than 800 miles away I'd be there again and again. It was a fun atmosphere and the private parking lot was darn helpful :)

Saw this place while walking to my car from Daichan, immediately called my wife to make plans to eat there later in the week. I knew she would be excited because her mom was born and raised in Jamaica and Jamaican food = home style cooking for her. The decor in there is pretty bare bones, but kind of charming, almost like you're a guest in their home. The cook did mention that they plan on renovating. The first visit we ordered a couple Jamaican Patties to start, yum. I think we sampled three flavors, beef, jerk chicken and curry chicken. They were all yummy. For those not familiar, a Jamaican Patty is like a thin hot pocket with a flakey crust and a delicious meat filling. For the entrees I had the jerk chicken, my wife had the curry chicken. I thought the Jerk Chicken would have been better, not as spicy as I would have liked, but my wife's curry chicken was absolutely incredible. Since they cook everything on the bone, everything has a lot of flavor, but the trade off is picking the bone chunks out of your mouth after every bite. The couple that runs the place is very nice, on both visits they stopped and chatted with us. That brings me to my second visit. My wife invited every family member within 100 miles to get some food just like mom used to make. Our party reached 10 Jamaicans, plus myself and my dad. The place was a hit with all of the Jamaicans. The Curry Goat got excellent reviews, as did the Escaviche and Red Snapper. I think I found my favorite dish there in the Stew Chicken. They don't serve booze, but they let us bring in a couple six packs of Red Stripe. The cook even came by and drank a beer while we chatted. I will definitely return to this diamond in the rough and not just because my wife loves it. I love it too.

We had tickets to a play at Crown City Theater and checked Yelp for something interesting. Sattdown popped up and we popped over. We were in a hurry to get to the play so we didn't explore much. It was a Saturday night and so we had the chef's signature fish soup, which was savory and just spicy enough while brimming with perfectly cooked fresh vegetables. We tried the Goat curry and jerked chicken. Both were up to the standards of our long-standing favorite Jamaican restaurant in Palo Alto. Next time we'll have to try the Roti and the Jamaican patties. Here's hoping Chef Tony sticks around.

Wow!!! I purchased a Groupon which introduced me to Sattdown - and I've been a fan ever since. It's hard for me to even wrire about my experience because the food was simply exquisite. My mouth is watering right now thinking about the lamb dish I had. Everything was wonderful!!! The chef was incredibly friendly and checked in on us and the atmosphere is small and quiet. A big plus in LA is that it has it's own parking area!!! I highly recommend Sattdown. You will NOT be disappointed!

A close Jamaican friend of mine brought me to this place. I can tell you this food is AMAZING! I wasn't expecting a Jamaican place to have any vegetarian options. At most I was expecting some mixed veggies and plantains. I was pleasantly surprised to see fake chicken, tofu, and fake fish on the menu. I have had the curry fake chicken and the vegetarian fish and I can honestly say I could eat at this place every day. It's amazing food with great service. They can get real busy sometimes so you might have to be patient but you won't regret it when the food is served. Also the veggie patty thing (comes in beef and chicken also) they make is also fantastic. Make sure you pick up a bottle of the homemade hot sauce. It's great on everything. They have this fried bread thing too that's great. Just dip it in the hot sauce and enjoy. Look out for the owner's new Amazon.com page coming soon. You will be able to order some menu items straight to your door! It's places like this that make my trips to LA worth it.

Being Jamaican I'm extra picky on where I eat when it comes to Jamaican restaurants. I find that hard to find in LA (especially when comparing to New York or Florida). Sattdown is probably the top 2 in my book. Wonderful food wonderful service and wonderful chef! Thanks Chef Tony!!

Yay, Jamaican food! The owners are really nice, and their kid is pretty cute. I had curry chicken and the bf had jerk bbq chicken - both really tasty, large portions, with red beans and rice, plantains & slaw. The soup of the day was really good too, even though the description on the menu didn't make me think I wanted it. The iced tea was fabulous, with raspberries, blueberries, pomegranate seeds - refreshing and sweet! They were out of beef patties, sadly...I guess I have to get there earlier in the day to satisfy that craving!

I took my family here for my Dad's 70th birthday yesturday! And let me say this place is flipping amazing the food OMG!!!! It is incrediable myself and my family really enjoyed it! We did have a groupon and used the entire value and then some. We ordered the jerk wing for an appatizer, they were so good and spicy. Now I dont really do spicy and can only eat it in limited amounts but the one wing I did eat...man make you want to slap somebody lol. My sister ordered the jerk shrimp, mom order the salmon, and dad ordered the jerk chicken. Everything was excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But hands down the plantains; If i could eat them for the rest of my life I would be satisfied :). We also ordered a couple of drinks; one was guava and the other i think was like mango. Of couse my mom wanted to add rum lol. Then for dessert we had the mango sorbet and the sweet potato VEGAN cheesecake...can you say yuuuummmm!!! The customer service was excellent the chef even came out to the table to check on use he saw my dad really enjoying the meal but noticed he was drying the sweat from his forehead cause the food was so spicy(let be frank it was medium) but the chef cameout and told my dad a story about this asian gentelman ordering the spicy food and he left the resturant sweating bullets lol lol I thought my dad was going to fall out of the chair from laughter! And finally I was paying the bill getting ready to leave, when the waiteress game my dad a going away present; it was the spice rum cake for his birthday:) I dont know how it tasted because my dad ate it without sharing :/. But I will definately be back like with in the next two weeks; Im going to bring my roommate and a mutal friend to try the spicest dishes because they think they can hang with any spicy food thrown at them. Thanks again Sattdown Jamacian grill for making my dad bday great. He said that it was one of the best places he has ever been to! Oh one other thing I love the decor so the reviewers that don't like it, you have no sence of style and aren't openmind!!!

I was dog sitting in studio city and found this place. I love me some curry goat, no one makes it like my grandma but I try it out whenever I find it. Price was right, a little pricier that back in NYC but that's just how it is. Good size portions, impeccable restaurant, nice staff, you can really see they earned their A rating. The goat tasted really good! everything did! And you could tell it was actually goat, not lamb which some cheaper places pass it off as. I like it spicier so I had to kick that up just a tiny bit. The one thing with goat meat is that it's got a lot of tendons, fatty chunks and thin little bones ALL OVER that you gotta keep an eye on cus it ruins every bite you take when you have to dig in your mouth for fat chunks and bone shards, and there was a lot of that both times I've gotten it. It's a common thing people overlook and is a bit annoying, otherwise it would be perfect and earn that 5th star. I didn't have them cus they were all out of them but unless they're made from scratch or particularly big: $3 is kind of a lot for beef patties, specially without coco bread.

i like this place a lot we had the chicken curry and the jerk chicken as well as the conch fritter things. the fritters were quite heavy, mostly breaded and i wouldnt recommend getting them as they were akin to the cornbread on a corndog. without the little doggy inside the jerk chicken was moist and flavorful with an abundance of spice, the sides of rice and plantains went very well with each other like, light rain and rainbows. however, i would have very much appreciated double the QTY of rice. the curry was just ok, nice and spicy but not as unique or standout as the jerk chicken. to me at least. when we were there it was quite warm inside (at night) and they had the air conditioner going but wasnt too effective. mom and pop place, and the owners were pretty nice.

Mr. Tony ( a Kingston native) is the best owner of any restaurant I've ever been to in my life. The most gracious restaurant owner. That being said, even if he was rude and obnoxious, the real Jamaican food or some would say "West Indian Cuisine" is the best I've had by far!! The Jerk chicken is soooooooo good. It doesn't need any Jerk Sauce at all. I love their patties and Jerk Curried Shrimp with peas and rice. Seriously, this food is so authentic like it came from Yard. We even pick up our catered order every time we go to Hollywood Bowl for a event. Believe me when I tell you boi " Sattdown Jamaican Grille is true Jamaican Gold"!!

It's been 4 1/2 years since I've had anything close to Jamaican food. Used to attend many Reggae festivals before i joined the army and always loved their curry and oxtails. So when i got invited to go see a Weezer concert in Universal City, I looked around for some good places to eat at. I have no idea how, but I found this restaurant and knew I had to try it. Probably the best decision I made that entire weekend. This place was amazing!!! The food was as good as I hoped. Started off with the conch fritters. They soft and moist. very tasty. dipped them in the sauce it came with and gave it a mild hotness to them. The Goat Curry was delicious. The goat was very tender and flavorful. The curry was not like any other I've had. it was spicy, but not hot spicy, almost a bit on the sweet side. not really a big fan of the rice, but that was not what i was there for. Then i also had their Oxtail. now this was amazing. the meat almost melted in my mouth! It was so good that i decided to have the people next to me try it when they asked how my food was. My friend was with me and she regretfully ordered their burger. she had been on a liquid diet for a month and just wanted a burger. Even though she said it was great, she said it was nothing compared to the food i had. You're damn right it wasn't! The service was also great. the lady at the counter, sorry cant remember you name, was very nice and very quick to get anything we needed. she stood around and joked a bit with us. might be because the restaurant is so small and they weren't that busy, but the chef actually came out and talked with us for a while. I will definitely drive 3 hours again just to eat at this place. loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! Only thing missing was a pre-dinner spliff! but then again, that's not there fault!

My family and I tried this restaurant when my mother was visiting from Nigeria. My mother happens to be an excellent cook and is very picky with restaurants. She had the goat curry and absolutely loved every bite. I had the jerk chicken and loved it, and my vegetarian brother ordered a fish dish that he also enjoyed. I have to say that one of the best part of our experience was our interaction with the chef; he was very warm, welcoming, and open to feedback--this was a breath of fresh air given the Studio City local. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant!

Okay, I found this place by total accident...wait, in life there are no accidents. Sattdown and I were meant to meet! I am a fan. By far, the best Jamaican cuisine I've had on the West Coast. The location is small, warm, and cozy. But the food is large, hot, and delicious! The jerk chicken is my favorite. Seasoned well with a traditional Jamaican kick! The beef patties are just as yummy. What I love most is that the owner/chef always peeks his head out of the kitchen to say hello. He's also sweet about serving a fresh veggie that he might have in the kitchen that's not necessarily on the menu. A must try when you have a hankering for some Jamaican Mon!

Best Jamaican food in California!!! My friend and I were walking along Ventura checking out different shops and stuff and we had been talking earlier in the day about Jamaican food and then we happened to come across Sattdown and we decided to take a look at the menu posted up on the window. Chef Tony was outside and introduced himself to us and asked us if we were actresses (we are) and invited us to bring our head shots to put up on his wall. Then he asked us if we were going to come in and my friend jokingly asked "Can we get a sample first?" and he brightly said "Sure! What would you like?" So we tried some jerk chicken and it was AMAZING! So then we ordered some hot wings and a veggie patty and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the atmosphere and the company of Chef Tony, his wife and they're cute kid. We're definitely coming back here in the future and bringing our head shots with us too!

Got a deal from Amazon on this restaurant as I have been to quite a few in LA and their food was bland, oily so was the service ...hence I decided to give this one a try. We went there on a Saturday and this little place was tucked away in a little strip mall but we found it. Oh...... clean, clean, clean oh yeah baby and the decor was just like the ones in Jamaica. Now for the food........ AMAZING.......... Got the rice & beans with ox tail...... son got the jerk chicken...... oh sweet goodness ...........................!!!!!!!!! ox tail melted in my mouth and that jerk chicken was the best I everrrrrrrrrrrrrr had. But wait asked for the sorel with ginger are you kidding me my son was in hog heaven upon tasting this delicious and refreshing drink. Although we had a deal from Amazon Chef Tony was real polite and told us it was not a problem. The waitress was very friendly and polite tooo. Finished with the rum cake and was in heaven again. Will see you again Chef Tony. Oh by the way the vegetables was delicious not soggy and bland as reported on here.

Oh, yeah! Who would have thought we'd get Jamaican food this good in Studio City? Before our meal, we had the conch fritters, served with a very spicy sauce that definitely opened the palate. We also had a pine- ginger and a sorrel to drink. For entrees, the akee and saltfish was right on, and I didn't even mind paying LA prices for it. Good akee and saltfish can't be beat, and I'd really been craving it. Tony's version was everything it should be, with good proportions of akee to other ingredients. I was very tempted by the curry goat, but alas had to leave that for next time. The patties looked great too. Also ordered was jerk chicken. This dish was better than average, with good flavor and spice...but not too spicy to kill the taste. As noted in other reviews, the owners seem to really care about their customers' satisfaction. Their earnestness and hard work should be appreciated.

Not sure if I came on a bad day, but doubtful I'll return. I'd send them an e-mail, but when I went to their website, they had no e-mail link. For service, they were friendly, but it took a long time to even get a menu, let alone our food. The jerk chicken wings were overcooked and gristly, the curried goat while tender was more bone then meat, and the curry sauce was broken (oil floating on top) with all the shards of bone, I was worried I'd split my gums. If someone from Satdown is reading this, please e-mail me and let me know if this is typical or I just caught you guys on a bad day.

came here on a wed afternoon. We were the only ones there which was good. we just missed the lunch crowd. Walked in and was surprised to see how small it was. The lady at the counter was nice but it seemed like she was new and was hesitant on responding to my questions on the food. but i had to forgive that because she was nice. We ordered the jerk chicken lunch, curry chicken and the goat dish. alot of food for 2 people but we also had a yelp deal and we had to spend $20 or more so we decided to get some extra food. I was excited to order the jerk chicken but honestly i was kinda disappointed. It had OK flavor. I can handle my spicy with the best and it wasn't even remotely spicy. i moved on to the Curry chicken and was blown away. It made my mouth dance! The goat curry was also very tasty. The sides were also good. The rice was OK but the greens and the palatines were really good. We also ordered the fresh juice that they make daily. Highly recommend that. The chef came out to ask us if everything was which was nice. Very friendly guy. Over all i would recommend this place to people who like adventurous food. Well worth the drive its really not that expensive.

The best Jamaican food I have found. Stumbled upon this treasure while on an afternoon of errands. The fresh coconut juice, in the shell, was a treat and helped cool me down while eating the perfect spicy jerk chicken. If you like it hot, ask and ye shall receive. Chef Tony really knows what he is doing. Thank you Sattdown! This was the first of many visits for me.

Wanted to say I went back again to get take out on my own, and Tony's wife was there again to greet me, and she was super welcoming and attentive this time around. I'm thinking maybe we caught her on an off day, which we all have, so wanted to update this review, seeing as it wouldn't be fair to keep the old one with no follow up. Had another awesome experience food wise, and the service was night and day since our first experience so I'm sure she was just having a super stressful off day the first time we went. Best Jamaican food I've had in L.A, love the food here.

AMAZING!! Just got back from Sattdown Cafe and can still feel the vegan curry beef, kola champagne, and crusty fish patty in my stomach. So delicious it reminds me of the authentic Jamaican cookin that I get everytime I go home and see my family :) -- Also makes me miss eating curried goat and oxtail :( ...either way 5 stars to some delicious, home cooking, that's easy on the wallet and yummy on my veggie friendly tummy! Thanks Chef & Mrs Tony!!

The decor definitely makes you feel you are in Jamaica... a not-so-nice part, maybe to go is a better option. The food was descent, but extremely spicy, no in-between options, we asked the waitress if we could have it medium, she said it was done ONE WAY. The restaurant wasn't very big, a young woman was also sleeping at one of the tables, wasn't sure if it was a waitress taking a break...

Funny enough, I met the owner, Tony Hyde, a few months ago. He handed me a flyer about his restaurant, but I never made it there. Fast forward to the last few weeks. A bunch of friends had lunch there and insisted I check out Sattdown. The name did not sound familiar to me, but I've been looking for good Jamaican/Caribbean food, so I was down to check it out. I went there today and instantly recognize Tony's face! I'm glad I finally made it to try the food. I had a quick and easy lunch of curry tofu, rice, beans and plantains. I also tasted some of his signature hot sauce, which is low on vinegar and full of spicy sweetness. Next time I go back, I'll have to add it to my food for sure. They have a number of vegetarian and vegan options as well, which is just what I was looking for.

Delicious wholesome food. Great patties, brown stew chicken and my personal favorite is the pineapple ginger juice on a hot day. The jerk chicken is a little spicy but still really good. Tastes homemade.

Came here last week and just have to write a review. Tony (the chef) is not only a super friendly host, but makes AWESOME bbq jerk chicken and festival. He was very attentive- asking if the chicken was too well done, he could make another for me. Chicken was cooked just right, uber flavorful and spicy (just enough to make you sweat but not so much it covers up flavor). And let me tell you, the festival is bomb. Crispy on the outside, soft and slightly sweet in the inside. I could eat those lumps of fried goodness for days. My boyfriend got the Tropical chicken and loved his dish as well. The vegetarian patty was also delish. Go and you won't regret it.

Amazing. Hands down fantastic. Small place, literally a mom and pop. Their son was hanging out when we came in-a cute little boy. We got the best service and food you could want from the moment we walked in. The wings are to die for-as is the bbq jerk chicken! if you like spice you will LOVE this place!!! Don't wait-go now!

Small, but it is the friendliness of the Owners and the great food we had that will take me back. There were two of us and we started off with the Chicken Wings, cooked to perfection in a nice spicy sauce. It was so good we both drained what was left of the sauce. We both had the Oxtail Stew, bone licking good and so tender. Wonderful blend of spices. The rice and beans were perfect but the plantains could have been a little grilled. Kind of tasteless. For dessert we had THREE pieces of the Jamacian Rum Cake ( asked for it warmed ) It was delicious like a steamed pudding as was the coffee made with condensed milk.

Love, love, love this place. I've been at Sattdown numerous times. Great food. Great customer service. The one lady - I think her name is Mimi, always remembers my boyfriend and I when we come in and she treats us so well. Going to sattdown is like visiting your favorite auntie's house - she wants to know how you've been, what's new and what you want to eat so she can stuff you full of it. Love the jerk seasoning they use on their dishes, soo, so good. And their jerk patties - it's like heaven. Full of flavor and so comforting. Love the plantains - they're my favorite treat. Still haven't tried the ox tail, but I plan on having it at my next visit.

Service was excellent and dishes were excellent! The chef came out to greet us after as well. I had the salted cod dish with vegetables and my husband had the beef stew. We both finished absolutely everything on our plates, and he even wanted to lick his. Their Jamaican grape soda was yummy, too! We will definitely be back!!!

I LOVE this place! I went for the first time, and plan on frequenting it often. The food is amazing! Goat curry, jerk salmon, and patties were all perfect! The service is probably the best I have ever had at an establishment of this size. Service is very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is small and gets pretty packed, so it is wise to make a reservation or avoid Fri/Sat nights.

One of the first things you have to do when you're trying out a place that boasts a regional, foreign food is try and disconnect the experience from one you may have had while traveling to that foreign place. If you have spent time in Jamaica, that might be a good philosophy to follow when checking out Sattdown. This is a small, popular place but somehow the atmosphere and attitude make it feel a little bigger. It is a family affair with the owners, Chef Tony and his wife in the kitchen and the dining room respectively. Both are good natured and fun. Chef Tony was born not far from me... in the Bronx! While his accent is light, it is, indeed Jamaican not Bronxian (the NY accent isn't easy to lose - trust me - and really wouldn't have added to the experience). There is actually a fair chance that I have spent more time in Jamaica than Tony, but far less time growing dreds. As a result of the chef's domesticity, the food does not register as authentic Jamaican to me. But that certainly doesn't make it bad! It is actually delicious. A couple of things to look for: The goat curry is extremely flavorful, but, I felt, a little salty (syntax problem - I did not personally feel salty - I was referring to the food). The jerk chicken was the most authentic dish. Tony later showed us that he has his jerk sauce bottled for sale, but I don't think it was available on the table! The hot sauce that was, was pretty damn good, though. Another native Jamaican experience you can have is the salt fish sauteed with Ackee, which is a vegetable that bares an amazing resemblance to scrambled eggs! The rice and peas served as a side on all the entrees was a damn fair attempt and great in its own right. The meat and veggie patties were spot on and delicious. Taken on its own merits, Sattdown is, indeed, meritorious but taken as a nostalgic re-visiting of your travels to Jamaica, it comes up, well, exactly one star short. But don't let that stop you from eating there! We brought our own cooler full of Red Stripes and used plenty hot sauce to help us plow through it!

my bro lives in Studio City with his fam, and for my birthday lunch they brought me to Sattdown. being half jamaican, its almost a crime that i had never really had jamaican food before. and after i tasted the deliciousness of this place, i cursed myself for waiting so long. Tony is very warm and welcoming, cooks everything to perfection and his wife is just as nice. they're little boy runs around and is VERY charming, he hand picked a rose for me ;) i got the chicken curry, which did not dissapoint at all. it was so good that we all went back and took our mom there for mothers day lunch. im not sure what time they open on sundays, but they were closed when we arrived. Tony opened up early just for us, and did an excellent job at making sure we all left satisfied. if you are ever in the area, you must swing by this place for a bite. you will be pleased, no doubt. i wish they were closer to me in the OC so i could have the greatness more often!

Excellent authentic Jamaican food! It was as good or better than anything I got when actually in Jamaica. It has a very friendly staff and a nice inviting atmosphere. I had the jerk chicken which was absolutely delicious. It had the perfect amount of spice! I was also able to sample the oxtail which was fall off the bone tender and packed with delicious flavor. This place is a must try!

We had tickets to the Reggae night (Jimmy Cliff) at the Hollywood bowl this weekend. In keeping with the theme, we thought some Jamaican takeout might be in order. After finding Sattdown on Yelp, we went to check it out. The food was excellent. Very flavorful, well prepared and also very reasonable. I haven't been a big fan of the jerk seasoning in the past (obviously I hadn't got it from the right place), but Sattdown was great. We had, and I can recommend the following: Chicken Patties (they were out of the beef by the time we got there) Jerk Chicken Plate BBQ Chicken Plate Jerk Wings It was enough for four people and everyone loved it. I definitely recommend this place if you're already into Jamaican food or are curious about it.

Well this was an amazing surprise...because it was as authentic and clean as it should be. Chef Tony and his wife made my mom and I feel as though we were at home in the caribbean. We are from Trinidad and we know good food. We had the Red snapper escbeche and soursop drink. and topped it off with some rumcake. The plating of the meal was something for the foodnetwork channel but looks are not deceiving in this restaurant..the food taste better than it even looks. The bottomline if you want amazing Jamaican food just go an Sattdown.

I love this place. The owner and his wife treat me like family! He does the BEST ROTI EVER! and instead of having to deal with meat (which i'm very picky about) he gives me tofu instead! and it tastes wicked! Amazing plantain. Wicked patties! Very classy! Great attitude unlike Coleys. Best JA restaurant in LA!! It's all peace, love and great food here!

I love this place. I eat here by myself, with my kids, and with my whole family. Our meals are always exceptional. It's food with all of the love, history, and resonance of generations of grandmas tuned up to perfect pitch by a very very good chef using the very best of honest ingredients. Everything is always right. Tony cooks with clarity and we eat with love and appreciation. My fourteen year old, who has enjoyed meals in fine restaurants around the world, says, "I don't know what it is, but his food is the best that I have ever eaten." Hear, hear. Thanks family!

The food was tasty and the price was right. Points off for the sheer amount of chicken-bone shards in the food and for the annoying Christmas music playing.

We went her for lunch the other day and were very happy with the food. I really like that they have several vegan options on the menu. My partner got the jerk tofu and I had the curry vegan beef. Both were very good! I was a little worried about the price, but the portions were huge and totally worth it. The woman working there was very nice and the service was excellent. We would definitely eat here again on our way to fro yo.

Woohoo! Jamaican food on the West Coast does not get better than Sattdown Jamaican Grill. The chef is very kind, and makes JA food very well. To all my fellow VEGETARIANS and VEGANS~ This is the place. It is much better than anything else in the West. Their Jamaican Patties (veggie) are SUPER GREAT! Seriously...can I take this place with me back home? Love it! Thanks Chef for being authentic, you made me and my hubby (A fellow Jamaican) smile today. From my hubby's mouth, "I have not had JA food like this since I lived in Miami, FL and JA! :o)

It's been 10 years since I was in Jamaica, but I was transported for the time it took me to have lunch at Sattdown, The Reggae music, the colors, the menu, We started with conch fritters, rarely seen outside of Jamaica, then my husband had to have jerk chicken, I had tofu, mango stirfry, came with rice and peas (pigeon peas-not green peas) both were so good that we really want to come back for the saltfish, the goat, the oxtails, Tony is the real deal, and he is the chef. Like Jamaica, it's a small, clean, personal place, with cooking so good that I wish I lived around the corner- I would eat there often, I feel like a Roti right now.

Found this place just looking up Jamaican food near where i am living. Upon arrival was given a warm welcome and seated promptly, drinks were asked for immediately. We ordered the beef patties(which they were out of) so we decided on jerk Chicken patties and chicken patties. Both AMAZING..and the chefs wife brought out a homemade hot sauce for us to try...which was really ,really great. She also brought out a few tiny pieces of a desert for us to try ..she seemed unsure as to why she was bringing us sweets before the meal but it was fine with us! Anyway..onto the main course... i ordered the Curry Goat. My girlfriend ordered the Akee Saltfish. The chef brought both dishes out personally and was very friendly and warm. Both dishes were amazing,.... and the addition of some of their homemade hot sauce..sort of almost a Jamaican masala if you will,...just topped it off. The chef Tony came out a few times making sure everything was okay. After the meal we chatted with Tony and his wife for about 15 minutes. During our conversation they gave us the names of a few other places that they said we should go support and try out which i thought was great of them. Tony also gave us a little bottle of his hot sauce to take home. (which i am pretty sure he is going to start labeling and selling soon). Anyway...both my girlfriend and I found the food to be very beautiful and flavorful and compared on par with the Jamaican we used to have in NYC. OH they also make their own Sorrel there..i had a glass of the ginger sorrel...GREAT and refreshing! Anyway ....definitely give these people a try,... they seem to be hard working and kind people who make amazing homemade Jamaican classics.

Yaah maan! Dees is wot em tokking bout! n dat's what the food here does to me - I turn Jameeekan, maaan! No no, its true - I'm NOT kidding! And if you don't believe me (or even if you do) then u MUST visit this place. Its an easy 1.5hrs from home for me but SO worth the drive, we went there twice in 2 weeks & took a friend along the 2nd time. We ordered the patties (beef, jerk chicken & shrimp-n-crab), some ginger-watermelon juice & conch fritters to start with, the highly acclaimed goat-curry-roti (the BEST I've ever had!), the chicken-curry-roti & the famous ok-tail meal - all 3 entrees came with fried plantains which was such an exciting plus! For desserts we got the rum ice-cream (yeah, rum!!!!) & some coconut-mango gelato. They have quite an impressive dessert menu, btw, sorbets, dual-flavor gelatos & unique ice-creams, some of which you won't find anywhere else! The owners are a super-friendly Tahitian & his sweet Filipina wife - An awesome Twosome indeed! The menu, overall, is extensive & you'll go crazy ordering away, just like us. Then again, don't fear, restaurant.com is here! Our bill was 70-sumthn & we got it down to 50-sumthn, thanx to our restaurant.com coupon. Get yours on my site: lilchefsworld.com in gratitude for my review :) I'll make a tiny commission of this but you'll save $10 or even $25 - SO worth the good deed, right? Right! :)

Chef Tony is the most gracious host and excellent cook. His wife is extremely helpful and courteous and every dish I've had there was amazing from the appetizers to the desserts. I'm not being paid to write this, I'm just a fan of Caribbean food.

I've passed Sattdown numerous times 'looking' for food. Flipping through Yelp, I ran across it and when I read the reviews, I couldn't imagine that THAT many people could be wrong . . . they weren't! The food here is absolutely delicious. I had the curry chicken and my girl had the oxtail stew. We shared meals and it was truly an incredible experience. It was soooo good that we came back the next night for what will soon become known as 'Chef Tony Hyde's infamous jerk chicken'. It was nothing short of perfection and if you feel the need to 'kick up the heat a little', ask for his jamaican hot sauce...you wont be disappointed. It's a small restaurant now but I have to think that Chef Tony will have to eventually expand Sattdown into the adjacent commercial spaces to accommodate the throngs of 'foodies' who have yet to discover this gem. If you love great jamaican food, a warm and inviting mom and pop atmosphere, modest pricing and portions that leave you full, you will thoroughly enjoy Sattdown.

I would not go in here and ask what sour sop is...you will not understand the explanation. However, if you go in and order what sounds tasty- you will thoroughly enjoy your meal! Jerk chicken patties- were spicy and the crust was buttery flakey goodness! I think I could just made a meal and ordered a few of these babies. I moved onto the tropical shrimp. I hate ginger...but I was in a seafood- but not fish mood if that makes any sense. First- my plate was covered in them- you know how some restaurants are really skimpy with the little suckers? Not sattdown. 2nd- while the dish was really gingery- it was perfectly balanced with something sweet (maybe citrusy, pineappley?), orange bell peppers and carrots. There were some steamed veggies on the side w/ some rice and beans. I ate everything. I drank everything- fresh guava juice- WOO WOO! I was too stuffed for dessert...super bummed about that one.

4th time i had jamaican food and this has to be the best one- BY FAR...the jerk chicken was tender and full of flavor. the oxtail dish is a must try. the meat falls off the bone and the sauce is exceptional. this place is a must try.

I've been looking for good, authentic Jamaican food (specifically spicy Jerk Chicken) for a very long time. Turns out it is extremely difficult to find- even in a city as large as Los Angeles. Sattdown's food is very fresh, prepared very well, and most importantly the Jerk Chicken is absolutely fantastic. You can get it as mild or spicy as you like it, and the sides are great too. Their patties are made on site- and are delicious. They make their own hot sauce and jerk sauce- both of which are extremely flavorful. The owners are very nice and accommodating- I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!

Been to a couple of Jamaican Restaurants in the LA area, and I have to say this one was the best, hands down. As a Jamaican native I was very pleased at the quality and authenticity of the food. As someone with a vegetarian in the house, I was happy that they prominently offered a few vegetarian dishes, and even more surprised when they tasted great. Meals ordered were Jerk Tofu, Ox tail, veggi-patty, and fish patty. These patties were some of the best I've had and reminded me of ones I've had made to order in Negril (Ms Sonia's). Drinks were Sorrel/Ginger and Soursop. That sorrel ginger mix was very tasty, but I was looking for straight sorrel (nostalgia). The staff was very friendly and made us feel well attended to. Prices were reasonable, and the space was clean and neat. As you can tell none of that mattered much to me since the food was so good. We'll definitely go there again.

My friend Yanira and I love trying new, different restaurants. We discovered this hidden gem and it's now one of our favorites! Everything was great, the atmosphere, service and of course the food. Everyone was so nice and helpful in explaining the exotic menu. Chef Tony even came out and helped us with our order. It was really nice getting to meet the owner and chef of the restaurant. He made sure we tried several authentic dishes and enjoyed every bite from start to finish. We ordered the beef and vegetarian patties, both of which were delicious. The light, flaky crust and spices were perfectly balanced. We also tried a bowl of the soup of the day; a combo of roasted root vegetables, lentils, chickpeas and a special blend of spices which gave the soup a hearty, smoky, really satisfying flavor. This was a great start to our meal. For our entrees, we tried the jerk salmon and the coconut rum shrimp. Both were delicious!! The flavors were well balanced and we could taste all the different spices and ingredients in the sauces. The meals were filling but very light, and the portions are very generous! All entrees are served with rice & beans, plantains and veggies. There's still so many things to try on the menu, so we know we'll def be going back!!

i think i enjoyed one of my favorite meals i have ever had when i had their jerk salmon. after the first bite i was hooked. i came back and tried their bbq jerk chicken. the jerk salmon is still my favorite, but the chicken was another winner in my book. unlike other experiences i have had elsewhere, you don't have to be jamaican to feel at home here. the people are really friendly and fun to talk to. so bottom line is that i enjoyed the food, service, and friendly atmosphere which means i will be back and i will tell people i know that don't know so they will know!

The food is excellent -- we had the jerk chicken plate and it was definitely the best Jamaican food I've ever had. The guys at the table next to us raved about the oxtails and the chicken curry and I'm planning to try those next time. If I lived closer, I'd carry out from this place at least once a week

I ordered the Curry Goat and I enjoyed it. My friend ordered the Jerk Chicken and it was wayyyyyyyy too spicy for the both if us. My other friend ordered the oxtail, and it wasn't as tender as I would have liked. Other than that, it wasn't too bad and would be willing to come back to try other dishes.

Very good jamaican food. Food is really spicy...they offer varying degrees but have the ultimate in spice for those who are a fan. Listen to the hostess for recommendations...very knowledge and accomodating. I had the Jerk Shrimp....which was excellent. May sure to order both a meal and an appetizer as the portions are small (the only con here).

i am guyanese so i have been eating caribbean food my whole life. i wouldn't say this place is the best and i am not going to say it's bad just ok. the curry chicken was kina salty for my taste there jerk chicken it kina dry. i am used to my jerk chicken being spicy with jerk sause earthier on the chicken or on the side so you can dip. my fav entree here is there oaktail losts of sause and flavor! there rice, cabbage, plantains and meat pattys are good. there hot sause is great i had to buy one to take home. there are better jamaican restaurants in la but overall it was ok.

Heard about and wanted to see it for my self. I called a bunch and nobody ever picked up the phone so I was even more intrigued. If you have never had Jamaican then this is a good place to start. I have tried every Jamaican restaurant I could find and I'm consistently disappointed. So, sat down neither disappointed me or impressed me. Portions are a 4 Flavor 3 Options and selection a 4 Service a 5 Parking a 2 they have a lot that is shared Coley's or front page are still at the top of my list. This sits tied with Derek's in inglewood. If you never had Jamaican I highly recommend it. If you are well familiar with island style flavor bombs then don't even think about it. If I'm in the area, I'd stop in for a Ting and that's about it. I'm surprised they don't carry Moss either. Guinness and Moss... Mmmm. The Jamaican Guinness Stout Punch is very similar to Irish Moss. Like the Irish Moss the Guinness stout was introduced to Jamaica via the Irish. Also like the Irish Moss drink the Jamaican Guinness Stout Punch is a notorious drink among men (and some women) who seek "vigor". Now that is island flava

OK, So I really wanted to like this place. However, I come from a strong Caribbean background. So I have tasted may different Jamaican cuisines and everyone's is different. Now don't get me wrong, there is definitely a Caribbean in the chicken but the food is lacking spices and authenticity. Its pretty bland and I had the curry goat, which was the most disappointing serving size i have every received in my life. I will say the steamed vegetables were suprisngly the best part of my meal. Overall the food was OK but the serving size, again, turns me off especially when I'm paying $18-$20. Also, have options of others to add to the meal may be suggestion they need to think about incorporating. Idk I just wasn't satisfied. Also I would what the ethnicity of the owner definetely doubt they are jamacian.

Ive finally found real Jamaican food on the west coast! It's been a long time coming but this place is the truth. Their jerk chicken was amazing, the mango chutney chicken was surprisingly good and even their beef patties were bomb. To make things better, the owner was cordial as can be and reminded me of my Jamaican brethren. If you want authentic Jamaican food in a place where it hardly exists, definitely come here!

Love, LOVE this place! We went here for the first time recently and had to come back a few days later. I can see that this place is going to be one of our regulars. The service is fantastic - really friendly staff. The food is also fantastic. We ordered jerk wings for him and a vegan jerk plate for me, and we could hardly tell the difference. Yay! It's surprisingly hard to find vegetarian food that's A REAL MEAL and not just cobbled together sides or gobs of over-salted carbs (Hugo's I'm looking at you). The jerk sauce was amazing. I'm hardly an expert, but who cares - I loved it. The veg was fresh and delicious. The plantains were sticky and buttery and yummy. I feel like I should try something different next time, but after writing this review I'm already craving the jerk....

This place is one of my favorite restaurants. For good Jamaican and good customer service it honestly doesn't get better.

T for tremendous! It's the best jerk chicken I ever had. I tried it in many places in England where they have plenty of Jamaican cafes and I also tried cooking it myself but this tastes the way you dream about - the way you imagine jerk chicken should taste when you read a recipe. It's a smokey spicy flavor - you can definitely make out the Allspice. The vegetables tasted like they came out of a can but they were cooked perfect like fresh vegetables. Strange. Service was relaxed - kinda slow to take order and to offer drinks. The kitchen has it DOWN though. Delicious, large portion of authentic food came out fast. The place is cheap too - you can bring your own booze. Boom tings

Since my vacation from Jamaica a few years ago, I'm always on the lookout for good Jamaican food, especially jerk chicken. So when I heard how "rasta" the food was here, I was excited to try this place out. What's nice about the location is that it's close to home about 10-15 minute drive East of the valley. The place is fairly small, hidden and tucked away on a corner strip mall off Ventura Blvd. in Studio City. With a large tropical aquarium and cloud panel ceilings artistically resembling the sky, it has a home-style island atmosphere that's inviting and casual. Prices are fairly reasonable most dishes ranging between $10-$15. Seating is limited and can get kind of tight during peak lunch and dinner hours. To try to rekindle my memories of Jamaica, I decided to order the jerk chicken. The chicken was a bit wet and saucy. Cooking style seemed to emphasize more on sauce and less on the marinade because I found the flavors to be subtle and lacked intensity from the seasoning. The grill flavor that I was expecting was masked by the smoky jerk sauce. Although a decent tasting chicken with good amount of heat from the peppers, it wasn't as good as the jerk chicken I had during my vacation in Jamaica at a few of the roadside stands. The side of rice and beans were okay. I did enjoy the sweet plantains which complimented the dish nicely. They also have a good selection of Jamaican sodas. The pineapple soda was refreshing and hit the spot. Keeping an open mind one surely doesn't judge a place by sampling one dish from a menu, but since it's a fairly popular dish and synonymous with Jamaican cuisine, it definitely needs to be awesome and delicious. Unfortunately, I found their jerk chicken here to be okay and missing the "WOW" factor. I did enjoy their kind hospitality and prompt service. Not anytime soon, but my next venture here I will surely be trying out their Jamaican meat patties and braised oxtail which I've heard good things about and hopefully will win me over. Overall - 3.0 Parking - private lot (limited) and street meter parking.

I found this place on Yelp a couple weeks ago when hubby and I were craving Jamaican food. We got there around noon on a Saturday and there was only one other table taken. It's a cute place that makes you feel like you're not in Studio City anymore! We started out with the spicy jerk chicken wings, which got us started off right - so good! For entrees, I ordered the oxtails and hubby ordered the curry goat, extra spicy. The entrees came with rice and beans, fried plantains and veggies. Everything was delicious, and their house made hot sauce added a great kick. My kids ordered the kids' fish and chicken plates and we rounded the meal off with some homemade blueberry banana bread pudding, which was amazing. My 8yo wants to go back just so she can have that bread pudding again! We also got some beef patties to go, which were delicious. Chef Tony and his wife are very friendly and he even spent time with my kids showing them the fish in his fish tank. A great family run business with great food - we'll be back, Chef Tony!

I met Chef Tony early Sunday afternoon when he came into my work with his family. They were all so respectful and I thoroughly enjoyed their company. We talked, and he invited me to his restaurant, since I had never tried Jamaican food before. I told him I would come by after work, and I was hungry all day as I waited to get out. We arrive at about 735, close to closing time, but we arrive welcomed by his kids, wife and himself. It was great to see Chef Tony come out and greet his customers and see how their food is tasting. I got the Jerk BBQ chicken, simply put it was amazing. The organization on the plate and the balance of spices was fantastic. I will definitely be back, not only for the great food but for the hospitality this place has to offer.

I can't believe I never searched for Jamaican food before! I have been missing out in life and if you haven't you are too. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate, jerk chicken patty and the beef patty. Oh Em Gee!! The deliciousness all up in my face! The jerk chicken was perfectly flavored, the parties were cooked to perfection! My girlfriend ordered the salmon stuffed plate and that was delicious as well. Very hole in the wall spot, friendly staff and awesome food.

Small restaurant, good customer service, and amazing food. Salmon Drunken Coconut = BOMB. I always order this because all the flavors in this dish compliment each other so well and even better once I had Chef Tony's Hot Sauce. I like having guava juice to go along with it as well. My bf and his brother ordered their fave Jerk Chicken and an empanada which also all taste amazing. They like having the ginger beer with their stuff. We got a bottle of the hot sauce to take home and once it's all gone we're comin back for more. Thanks Chef Tony!

Another mom and pop gem found in the Valley. So I was looking for a Caribbean place to eat nearby, and this gem popped up. After browsing the pictures on Yelp, I could not resist, especially when you see celebrities such as: John Legend drop by. After craving Caribbean food for several days, I came in right before they were about to close to prepare for their dinner. Ordered the jerk chicken lunch combo, which came with dirty rice, beans, and plantains (just enough to fill me up). I also tried their passion fruit juice (which by the way, was fresh, and complimentary refills), most places would not do that. Although, it was my first time here, the owner's wife made it a relaxing and cannot find any place close to what they have. Will be back for their red snapper and oxtail dish.
